My car has been going into gear hard ever since I had my old tranny swapped out for a VLSD. Sometimes the car will not go into first gear, so I have to put the shifter into 4th gear then back to 1st and it will go in fine. Most of the time, it takes more force than should be necassary to put it in 1st or reverse. Is there any way I can make the car go into gear easier? There aren't any noises or anything that is wrong with thr transmission that I know of. Is there a way to adjust the shifter of something like that?

 

Bleed clutch lines again and or adjust clutch MC rod play to proper free play length

My '95 was doing this pretty bad too. I changed the tranny fluid to Amsoil and it has improved significantly, but it hasn't gone away completely. If it doesn't go into 1st, take your foot off the brake and let the car roll a little. The gears will then line up and slip into place. You also might want to check the shift linkage. There are a couple joints that could wear out and aggrivate the problem.

I'm experiencing something like this but not as bad. Sometimes it won't go into gears. And I'm usually adding more fluid into the reservoir after a month. Had my buddy look at it and looks like I have a leak on the slave or somewhere related. Anyhow, he's going to fix that and it should resolve the hard shifting issue.

 

check your clutch lines and cylinders for leaks, and bleed the lines like stated above

 

It isn't a leak in the lines, I had that before and toasted the stock clutch which already had 100Kmi on it in four days. How would I go about adjusting the linkage? I'm also not really sure how to change tranny fluid but I'm sure I can find a how to on motorvate or something.

 

To check your fluid jack up the car, there is a plug in the gearbox facing the front of the car. You can use a 1/2" ractchet to take it out, then place your finger in the gearbox to check the level if low add more. A quick no will be if fluid immediately comes out when you remove the plug. Also when raising the car it should be somewhat level to get an accurate reading.

 

How old is the tranny? Try changing oil like everyone said. Mine was like this on my maxima but improved with Amsoil. Good luck.

 

I'm not sure how many miles on it, they place we bought it from didn't have that information, but the tranny has been in my car about ten months
