Gas Mileage

Hows your cars MPG? i just got my 98 se and its got new oil, new air filter, new sparks, i'm getting the worst MPG ever, like 18 or less...

what size tank is in these babies? 18 i think? or atleast thats what its taking.. i just wanted to know what u guys were getting, they should be doing much much better than that i think.. somethings might be wrong here..

i do have an engine light that is on.. and i'm gonna run the ECU check soon... anythoughts though?

Check your ECU to get the codes, it is pretty easy. There is a sticky in the forums on the procedure. It is probably your knock sensor. I would say clean your throttle body too. I noticed a difference after doing both. Good luck, you are already half way there to covering some of the maintenance that affects mpg.

Also, there is a thread a few pages down on an mpg poll. I am geting about 23-24 mpg mixed city/hwy driving with a few stomps on the pedal now and then.

MPG doesn't depend on tank size, and take the Sitcikes course, it covers all these FAQ/How to's.

the one regarding throttle body works. Aside from that, if your car doesn't stutter..let go of the accelerator pedal..go easy. I get 25-27 on my manual..city + mostly highway...all city brings down to 23mpg

also, i just ran the ecu check...

and i got the Diagnostic Trouble code 0302, EGR system hi/low flow, i have no idea what that is... i did read the description on it and it makes no sense to me.. would this problem have any affect on poor gas mileage?
