anti theft

Hi all. I'm glad to see a nice forum for maxima enthusiasts. I love my '87, however, i've always noticed a security light when i get out of my car at night. I never lock it, but i did the other day at work. Since my drivers side door panel is hanging when I open it i unlocked the passenger side with the key. My horn started blowing and i tried everything i could: opening doors, unlocking power locks, turning key, : nothing would shut it off. I finally pulled the fuse out the horn. Two nights later, when i got in my unlocked car it wouldnt start. There was like a kill to the starter from the clutch. I hear a clicking noise coming from the anti theft relays under the hood. My husband just push started me and i popped the clutch to get it home, but its no start again. You can jump the starter with a screwdriver, and it will start no problem. The starter has one bolt thats so tight it can't be removed. My husband says new starter, i say its the anti theft. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

It's probably the anti-theft. Simply because the only way to disarm....or at least in my case, is through the driver side door only. The anti-theft system will disable the starter. What you need to do is pop the fuse back in lock and unlock the drivers side door and see what happens from there. Also sounds like you need a new driver's side door panel.

I had numerous problems with my anti-theft because the drivers side door lock sensor (or whatever you wanna call it) never wanted to work. when I got out of the car, I could turn the key and all the doors would lock and the system would arm (the system arms when the security light glows steady.) but I couldn't disarm the system from the drivers side door cos of that power lock sensor that didn't work. so if I opened the drivers door with the key it'd go off. what I had to do was either go around to the passengers side door and turn the key to unlock all the doors and disarm the system, or go to the trunk and open it with the key to disarm the system, close it, then quickly get in through the drivers side door during that 30-second arming time.

but it sounds like your problem is similar to mine. the key lock cylinders on the doors have electrical contacts to automatically lock and unlock all the doors. I completely disassembled mine and found out that the ones needed to unlock and disarm had gone bad. I wasn't about to go to nissan and pay them at least $100 for a new part.

usually it was more of a pain in the a** than it was a convenience, so I disconnected the whole security system. that can be done by going into the trunk and looking directly up at the two boxes between the speakers. one is for the adjustable suspension, and the other is for the security system. just unplug the wiring harness for the security system. you'll still have power locks, but the security system won't go off or kill the starter any more.

Tried all that. Bought and installed a new solenoid also after having mine tested. Now it makes a whining sound. Don't know what else to try. I've taken the solenoid apart and put it back together 100 times.

Happens from start up. Accelerator hard to push at first. In neutral, car sounds ok. When I'm driving it in gear, it's like a fuel line is pinched. Sputters with no power at all. no pickup. It doesn't die on me and it doesn't seem to get any better the longer i drive it. I'll put it in neutral and rev it a few times, thinking it needs to be blown out, it doesn't seem to sputter then, but back in gear it's horrible. Never had this problem until I had the fuel injectors, rails, filter, and lines replaced. Maybe i just need to have it tuned up?
