Can window tint hinder visibility...

to the point that it feels like I'm looking thorugh someone else's eyeglasses? I've had this problem for several months now. I've had the tint on my rear windshield for about 5 years now. I'm not the type of person to clean my car every other week, but I'm careful enough that my car has a clean look to it. Everytime I look through my rearview mirror, day or night, all the objects are now completely blurry. So, I went to my rear seats to give the rear window a cleaning from the inside and outside (just warm water - no detergents to harm the tint), and the problem is still there. Does anybody have any suggestions, or should I get it re-tinted?

its your tint....likely the fluid between the tint and window that is causing the problem

I would just get it untinted. The defroster will just ruin it again anyway.

definitely take the tint off and put on a new one; don't sacrifice vision clarity for no reason.
bhunter: how does the defroster ruin the tint and if it actually does, how long after you put it on?

Depends on how much you run the defroster. The heat of the defroster warps the plastic film. Ever notice how many tinted cars are OK except the back window? The back window gets all bubbly until you can't even see through it. I don't know how long it takes to start melting it.

I had tint on my 92 SE for 10 years and the defroster never caused any harm to it.

If you get quality tint, not the kind you get at K-mart, then the defroster has no effect on the tint. I live in NE and run the defroster just about every day from December to March or April and 3 years later it still looks like the day it was put on.

How much do you run that defroster in Florida? I agree with a later post that a high quality tint may last a long time.

Thanks for your input everybody. I'll probably wait until the begining of spring to get the tinit replaced. I guess the place I went to didn't have the quality tint. They did a great job of the installation though...

Over a 10 year period in 3 different states including Chicago winter, plenty of times. No doubt about high quality lasting a long time. My tint looked as good as the day it was installed when I traded my 92.

I got mine installed in january and it's been great for over 3 years... there's no reason you can't get it installed now...just ask a lot of questions and get references from people who had tint done there a while ago and are still happy with it.

I have 25% on the sides and 19% on the back window, and it seriously looks like there is no tint on the windows when you are inside at night. From the outside you cant really see in, but maybe because it is a 100% metalized tint film? I have Quantum film on, and I was told it is fully metalized rather than partially like other films, and it takes much longer to dry.

I have 20% all around and 5% on rear window. The side windows are dark at night, but its not too dark to see. The rear window can get annoying once in a while, but you get used to it, headlights / high beams no longer bother me through the rear window, which is nice since everyone's headlights are in my face with my car as low as it sits now.
