400$!!!????

does this sound right for 4 lowering springs (H&R) to be installed?

they said maximas are complex because we have pins in the rear struts or something like that sounded like a bunch of shat...

Took my mechanic a little over an hour to do it. He charged me 100 bux w/o and alignment.

The only reason it took that long was because he accidentally pulled the cv axle out one one side, so he had to put that back together.

anville that about 5 1/2 hours, thanks man but i dont feel like traveling that far Erie is full of amazing car shops, Ill find a nice place thank you very much for the offer though I appericate it.

or you could do it yourself, many have lowered their cars with much sucess, there are write up and its not that difficults just certain tools are needed, you could rent some spring compressors or buy some for ~$30 shipped, then just need some serious break bars, you could spend about $60 in tools and do it yourself and not pay that shop $400.

Thats actually the best thing to do.
It may take you longer, being that its all new to you, but you will have a better understanding of the suspension setup for future reference.
Its really basic and once you start the disassembly you will see just how easy it is.
Compressing the springs is what is really time consuming.

Pins? What the hell? I could change out BOTH rear springs in 45 minutes. That included jacking, wheel removal, and reinstall. The rears are terribly easy. The tools that are needed are spring compressors (if you still have the stock springs), 12mm socket, 14mm socket, 17mm socket, rachet, breaker bar, torque wrench (for torquing the lower bolt to spec), jack, and jack stands. I could do fronts in about 1.5 hours or less.

good luck, if you were near me, i would help you. i have done mine at least 3-4 times and 5 other maxima's. its not that hard. find another place or do it yourself.

You don't have to mess with the CV joints, sounds like your mechanic doesn't know what he was doing either

The rear strut have pins? I'd say don't allow these people to touch your car.

It's all relatively easy. The rear bolt up inside the trunk area and you'll have to move the lining to get to them.

Ive seen it happen before.
The axle nut had to be removed to line it back up and put it back in, but it still poped out with it attached(inner axle)

It was probably came out of the axle side.

Umm, the CV did slide out and I know this guy knows what he is doing. He builds race cars and works at a reputable shop. I have complete faith in his mechanical ability. I have refered him to many people in town and he does quality work. All the people that have had work done by him continue to use his services. **** happens sometimes and no one is above it.

On a Maxima, the only way for the driver's side CV axle to slip out of the tranny while doing suspension is if the C-clip on the end of the axle is really weak (very rare) and you're tugging like crazy on the steering knuckle (which makes no sense). On the passenger side, the only way it can happen is if you remove the 3 bolts from the axle support bearing which is tucked far inside the engine bay which by the way is no where near the suspension work and there would be no reason to remove the bolts.

It's not a problem that it happened. Usually the shaft won't disconnect but that all depends on if you let the lower A arm just hang while the strut is removed.

hey im 17 years old and me and my dad did the install of new sprint springs and struts in my driveway all you need is the right tools and a lil bit of time and you will be fine. The info on how to do it is all over -just do your research and everything should be okay

If the guys on the forum did it in the past, maybe they can do a write up with pictures for the guys who never did it before. I would do it if I know what parts to take out/ compress and the tools needed.

Im surprised no one else said this but if you are changing your springs, gets some aftermarket struts as well or you will be doing the same job pretty cause your stock struts will blow.

I will once i have money, they are fairly new OEM struts about 15,000 miles on them they were replaced last summer towards the end...i think with the H&R they should hold up fairly long or atleast till i get new iluminias..
