after my clutch resivour completely draining out the other day and then putting in new fluid and bleeding it, it is working excellent. i still know that the hose with the bracket on it has a leak which caused my clutch 2 have no pressure in it.

i brought it 2 my mechanic and he told me that the hose should def. be replaced but while im down there it would make sense 2 replace the slave cylinder also. my car does have 157,000 miles on it so the slave is prolly worn out.. he said the parts and labor would cost around 200 bucks. i am saving the money as we speak. how can i tell if my slave needs 2 be replaced?? is it worth it 2 have my mechaic order the parts or should i get them? if so where can i get them???

is 200 expensive for the slave, hose, and labor? is it easy 2 replace the slave myself?

 

you should defiantely get them you can most likely find a better deal than your mechanic

best way to check for slave leaks, is to poke around in there look for wet spots, or their is a write up on how to replace slave cylinder, not that hard at all, you could probably get away with doing it yourself for around $70, others on here have.

I think $200 is way too much, check around.

I'm also in the same boat. I have a very slow leak where I have to add more fluid in the clutch reservoir every month or so. I looked under today and I do have a leak from the master cylinder, area is wet. I am going to get the master, slave, and the lines in between replaced (30% off from a hook-up). I'm getting parts, my buddy at the tranny shop is doing the work for me for free.

BTW, that car-part site sells used parts? What's the point in buying used master/slave cylinder parts? Isn't it better to get them new for obvious reasons?

It would make better sense to get a brand new one for obvious reasons, but it seems as thought he is in need of it very shortly and he stated he's saving up now. Not all slave cylinders are prone to failure at some point ( Ihope not ) so getting a used one for a dirt cheap price could be the fix he needs and it works as good as a new one.

 

I got the slave and the hose from my local dealer for about $50 each. Replaced them both myself in a couple hours... very easy. And I recommend getting a new slave if it's only a $20-30 difference.

 

The slave has very few moving parts. Only the seals are the area of concern. If used in conjution with DOT-5 fluid the seals will NEVER wear out. Why throw all these perfectly good parts in the landfills to waste even more of Earth's valuable resources.
