Had To Take Out The Car In The Snow

Ahhh **** man today my dad got stuck in the snow with the 96 Maxima. While he was trying to get out he did something to the axle. He goes take out the new one so I can go to work. I was so sad I didn't want to take that car out in the snow. I am surprised how much it slides around. The 96 doesn't even slide around that much. Everyone here was like this thing is amazing in the snow, it is but slides to much. Drove it when he got home.

I would'nt know, but snow drifting sounds like fun as long as another vehicle does'nt drift into you!

I've been driving mine in the snow with no problems so far. But then again, I got used to snow driving with RWD, so by comparison the Maxima handles like a champ...

Maxima's just have too much power for the snow...without traction control, it can be hard to keep the front wheels from slipping. Just go easy on the gas.

drive it in manual and keep the gears low. I'm having fun getting in and out of my unplowed parking area at home. I keep it in 1st and inch out. It's about 1 ft deep, so of course it spins. If backing up a little doesn't help, I just spin until I get out, keeping RPM below 4k.

Our wide big wheels are the detriment in the snow. RSA suck IMO even in slush. I just know to take it easy and slow.

I'm just very sad that she's covered in salt right now. I feel horrible inside. I want to go rinse her off so bad. But I know it is useless with it snowing some everyday and the salt soaked roads.

[rant] First of all, learn how to type. Second of all, people like you are the ones that make it hard for us to get a tranny when we have legitimate problems. [/rant]

when my rear slides out (i do it on purpose a lot of times) the VSA kicks right in and i'm right back on course. the VSA package with TC was definately worth every penny.

sorry if i'm wrong, but do you mean VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) instead of VSA?

I have the VDC option as well, waited an extra month to locate the exact maxima i wanted with VDC. Definitely worth the wait and extra money. I live in MD and driving around these past few days was no problem. The max handled without a problem last year during bigger snow storms. ABS kicked in a lot as well. Love the Maxima!

Get some snow tires. I downsized to 17 inch rims and snow tires for the winter. I bought them last year because I was sliding too much too, even barely touching the gas. If I had known I would have got the vdc and traction control. I never had a car slide out so much but it's also because i've always had a stick which you can control the start with the clutch better. probably go back to the stick next go round.
