Max Smoking Badly -BLACK

Im thinking it's the o2 sensor, but I would like to scan it to find out what's really going on because the engine light came on. no one around here has the scanner for this car. does anyone know what type of scanner I can buy some where?

This sounds alot like what happened when my ecu died. It would foul plugs, run rich, black smoke, and sometimes stall. My mechanic said it wouldn't go into closed loop and the ecu wouldn't give codes. Had the ecu rebuilt and it fixed everything.

Hey james93gxe im having the same probs you listed. Are there anyways i can test my ecu myself? Also how much did it cost you to get your ecu rebuilt? Is it just better to buy a used or new one?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Had intermittent blk smoke; TPS was bad. Maybe not as bad as u did. Documented what I did, been working wel since (somewhat high fuel consumption). Just ! today after knock sensor resistor bypass got 30mpg, so now its almost as new (...but tranny lock)...

Wiking thanks for the info. When you had smoke did you also have idle problems. Also did your ecu throw any codes.

Idle floating around 900-1300. No codes ever. Btw, I did not actually see the smoke, friends driving behind (cold engine) complained to me, I complained at the gas station...

I did not get 'any' help from crap chilton manual, thereby I went through the whole car, and documented what I found, corrected. Thanks to this forum's super men, I later made a collection of the documents to this http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/1 ... Now after 0.5mOhm resistor 'KS bypass surgery' got 30mpg [higway 60mph] first time ever (after 1˝yrs).

ECU is a 50 code lottery machine trying to throw dice for the 5000 possible ol' car problems...

Sorry for the late response. No, I couldn't get anything out of my ECU. Even with a Snap On scanner. I think its cheaper if you can find one at a junk yard, make sure the numers on the ECU match. It cost me 250 for a rebuild with a warranty.
