Bad CV Joint noise but it isn't the CV Joints??? Help!
What would you think if your front right area was clicking and knocking when you took left turns and when there is someone in the passenger seat the knocking can still be heard even when just going forward,also, the boots on the CV axle aren't torn?
Well, that's my situation. I think I have a defective cv axle which was installed May 04. I took it back to the shop and they said they didn't know what it was but they knew for sure it wasn't the Axle itself. What all could be making the "bad cv joints" noise? Should I just replace the axle again(except I will do it myself)? What should I look for. Just need some help,this is driving me crazy. I also think just because the boot on the cv axle isn't torn the shop thinks it can't be the cv joints.

I had the same problem... esp extra noise with a person in the front pass seat... mine happened right after I replace the left axle.... struts and springs.... I thought that it was the new axle that I just installed ... since there was no noise before replacement and it was coming turning left .... replaced the axle... still there.... rechecked everything.... couldn't find a problem..... then I found that the right inner cv joint was the problem.... you could feel a little play in it up and down.... the boots were fine and I had replaced the axle a year or so earlier.... had the axle swapped out under warranty.... no more problems

Wheel bearing don't click, they hum, wurr or grind.
Transmission bearings don't click, they hum, wurr, grind or even scream at times.
CV joints click when they go bad, check both inner and outter joints. The boots don't have to split open for the joints to go bad.

could it be your strut mounts and/or strut bearings?
i am about to replace these on my max b/c i've heard noises similar to yours and i talked to a nissan tech and he said these parts only have about a 5 year life span

Bad strut mounts will make noise over bumps and possibly when you turn your steering wheel. Bad strut bearings will cause the spring to bind up and will only make noises when you turn your steering wheel.
Look closely at the center nut up top on the front struts. It should be centered within the mount. Often when the mount goes bad, the rubber isolator breaks down and the top of the strut piston (nut) will move over slightly to one side. Again it's most likely going to make noise over bumps.
Click, click, click, click, click as your wheel spins, pronounced when the wheels are turned is most always an indication of a bad CV joint. Addition weight in the vehicle changes the angle the CV joint operates at, which in turn could cause a failing joint to act up.
