do i have too many miles to mod?

my car has 150k on it and is in good condition. My question is if the engine and tranny just have to many miles to begin to mod. I was only going to do bolt-ons for now such as: cat back, CAI, high flow cat, y-pipe,possibly chip, and suspension. My only qualm is too spend this money on an engine and tranny that can't take it. What do ya think?

Do a compression check on the engine and see what kind of condition its in..a compression gauge, a good one, is about $70 but it insures your engine is in good shape. Plus you can do it every 10K miles or so and check on the engine, its easy.

5spd or Auto ??

I have 134K and am about to throw on my S/C kit...in an attempt to push 320-340whp...

I of course will do a compression check first, but looking at my N/A dyno...I would assume my compression is really good

Ive been doing mods on mine also, its got 154k on it now. runs like a charm. still have really good compression on all cylinders. Ive had second thoughts about installing a SC or turbo kit though. Think ill stick with bolt ons until i get a lower mile engine to toy with.

I dunno what you're saying. Sounds like you're sticking 3 fingers in somewhere.

I have 150k on mine, with ACT clutch and intake. No more plans for go-fast mods, unless it's boost. It's an endless money pit unless you're making $ by winning competitions.

^^^ im not sure what was so difficult to understnad about kicking it into 3 digits.

i have 135k and running strong, its quieter than most new cars. i'm not going to go overboard with it though, few bolt ons to enjoy it and get me throught the next 2 years i hope.

The weakspot for us 96ers seems to be the tranny. Of course the VQ is a legendary power plant that seems to run forever. Apparently there was a differential bearing problem on all 95 and 96 manual trannys. Has your tranny had any problems up to 150K? I am curious to see how many of us eventually suffer from this problem. I am at 113K and all this differential bearing talk has me worried at times.

I am at 120k miles and I still plan to mod a bit, though my motor has already been replaced (21k miles on it). My only fear now is the tranny will be next, but I am going to start looking for a cheap junkyard replacement.

well i dont think my tranny is too bad. its hard to put into first sometimes, and some times reverse. i havn't had any of the systems of the differential bearing..no grinding or ne thing and my tranny fluid was just replaced and there wasn't any metals chunks in it so i hope my tranny is in good shape because that is my fear that the tranny will go.

I'm at almost 203,000. I have a Y pipe, Catback, Intake, and am waiting on my kit and lowering kit for the spring. But I have a new transmission at 185 and if anything goes on my engine it is just a reason for a 3.5 swap or hybrid.
