Top speed limiter? and oil leakage

I was coming home from work on the highway at about 3 in morning and i was driving really fast. I got up to about 125 and it just stuck there, and the rpms were just stuck. i could almost swear that i have gone 140 at least and was still going but i could be wrong. i have a 94 maxima se that is stock, cept for my personalized intake. I was wondering if there are top speed limiters on some of the cars, and if there is, where is it. Also i have a very big problem with oil leakage. I think it is around the oil filter. Every where i park there are huge oil spots. When i changed my oil the other day, around the oil filter was covered in oil and i could tell it had been dripping down the outside of the filter. any one know any common problems with that? or should i just go ahead and replace my lines and stuff??

no limiter at all

if it really is coming from the filter, then you may have just had the filter on too loose or messed up the sealing surface (be sure to clean that area after you take off the old filter and put a small amount of oil on the new rubber gasket of the new filter)
most likely it's coming from behind the crank pulley and you need to replace the front main seal

you may have also double sealed the filter. if the seal didnt come off with the old filter. i have never heard of any topspeed limiters on our cars. just that the auto tranny will only let you get up to about 150 if your lucky

The speedo in my car only goes to 125. I dont know if its the same in the VE maximas. And none of the 3rd gens have speed limiters.

they are speed limited by several factors
1. common sense (though this has been bypassed in numerous case)
2. Rev limiter
3. Gearing
4. officer friendly

my AUTO 89 would only go to 125mph under its own power...
i did get it up to 137mph on a decline on a highway, but...

I thought it was a limitation of the auto tranny.

This is gonna get blocked fast. But if you want fast get a 5 speed due to the gearing. Auto's have too large of a gear ratio. Besides going over 115 in O/D is the way to go. I hit 125 with O/D off the then turned it back on then and can I say an extra gear.

DOubtful, VGs max out at around 125 or so. Maybe a bit faster downhill, or with mods.

considering the auto transmission is a 4 speed, and the O/D is a real gear, then yeah..

I think your very wrong, or u have a busted rig.
I've burried muy speedo several times in the past, and watched my rpms climb to the limiter.

alright thanks everyone. i just cant wait till it gets warm to do my swap. ill check out my seals tomorrow, i didnt put the previous filter in because i was in bording school for various issues =( so the place did it. so im imagining that it is the seals. If there is oil in your car, can you take the filter out without losing that much oil?
