Which manual tranny can I use for a swap?
Hello,
Once I get to it, I would like to do a Manual tranny swap. Only thing is I have a 1989 GXE Auto and heard that the manual that goes with the '89 VGs is weak. Is there a better tranny I can use, maybe from the later model year VGs ('91-'94)? What about using a 5spd from a different gen (4th, 5th), or better yet, a 6spd from a 5.5 or 6th gen? Also, would I be able to add a VLSD or Quaif? Thanks.

Would love to donate, but honestly, I don't have the $ at the moment. I will as soon as I can. If someone can send me a link to the necessary thread I will certainly read up on it. I haven't seen a specifically relevant thread though in the last few pages. Thanks for any help in advance.
BTW, is there anyone local to me here. I'm in College Park, MD near Washington, DC.

the trans from the 89-91s are pretty strong if your at the stock HP with a stock clutch on strweet tires youll proboly never break it
the 92-94s have LSD from the factory so if you want that get one of those but like stated above you need the axles and hub from a 92-94 5spd car also
the 95+ trans have a different bellhousing bolt pattern so your outa luck there unless you want to cut the belhousing off a 3rd gen trans and weld it onto the 95+ trans
the front input bearing in the trans is the only weak point so you might want to think about replacing it befor installing the 5spd especially if the trans your installing has alot of miles on it
