Fuel Injector and Fuel Rail Question

Sorry I tried to search but the search function seems to be disabled for now.

Can anyone describe to me the Fuel Rail and Injector setup in the VQ powered Maximas and what years they may differ from one VQ Maxima to another?

Do the Maxima VQ's use a top feed injector like the 350z or does the intake plenum restrict space enough that a side feed is used like on the VGs?

Photographs would be great if available.

I really appreciate your time and I apologize if you consider this a noob question, I have very limited experience with the Maxima, especially the VQ Maxima.

You might find some better answers in the motor and super/turbocharged forums.

What's up phunk...why you asking? Welcome over here to the FWD VQ side of the world.

Anyways, the 2000-2001 VQ30 Maxima uses the same injectors as the 2003-2004 350Z.

VQ35 Maximas use a smaller, but similar version.

Whatcha doing?

trust in the ice man. He's probably played with more injectors than all of you combined!

I doubt that, but I know this to be a fact.

I do have 4-sentra injectors, 1-DEK injector, and 6-PE injectors sitting on my desk at home though.

I haven't personally verified all of these, however supposedly all these share the 290cc injector:

2003-2004 350Z(NOT 2004.5)
2000-2001 Maxima
2000-2004 Pathfinder
2000-2001 2L Sentra

And all these share the 270cc injector:

2002-2003 Altima
2002-2003 Maxima
2003 Murano

I was just curious, we have designed and built the nicest rails available for the 350z and I was wondering if they would fit in other cars to expand our market. We have tested them to fit flawlessly with PE/Stock injectors, RC Engineering, Bosche, and Denso/HKS Injectors... they fit great (cept the densos you need to swap to larger top o-ring).

I have a list of reasons why our fuel rails are absolutely the ****... but I am not here for that, I am curious if they will fit on the Maxima or Altimas VQ engine??

Even with the tall height of the Denso and RC Injectors we have no clearance problems with the 350z intake plenum. Here are some spy shots from my cell phone...

BTW I recognize you from the 350z forums

Send me a pair and I'll let you know?

You've converted to return-style, so as long as clearance isn't an issue and we mount an external FPR(OEM bolts to the rail), it could work for our cars.

Phunk develops killer products. He most likely has a solution for VQ35s returnless to return style fuel system conversions. However, only one or two VQ35s here could actually benefit, since they are boosted.

Here's a noob question from a guy with 900+ posts: how would changing the fuel rail change the performance? I might be able to see getting more fuel through the injectors to help with a turbo or supercharger, or maybe even NOS, but on a N/A engine, would it do anything? Granted, those rails look much better than the stockers, but I wouldn't waist my time or money on something that'll just sit under my engine cover an look pretty.

yes on anything less than a boosted car this would be a waste of time and money unless you really needed to be capable doing a lot of fuel system tuning. The benefits of using custom rails over stock rails are MOSTLY a bolt on solution to being able to run AN fittings... you could always cut and weld your stock rails tho.

I am not trying to push a product, I am just curious if what I already make will fit on another applications... if there is a lack in high HP maximas or people trying to build them, then there is definatly is a lack of demand for a product such as this.

Just checkin, thats all. I will look into it more later.

Thanks guys,
Charles

Phunk,

I've read many of your posts over in the 350Z forum. Your doing some awesome things for the Z. Please feel free to come to our forum anytime. You might want to post questions more advanced than bolt ons in the All Motor or the Supercharged/Turbocharged section.
