ASCD cancel switch - clutch related question
what does this switch do? it's the switch that the clutch pedal rests agaisnt when it's not depressed, but what's it's purpose? sometimes my clutch pedal sticks halfway down when the car is cold, and i find that by moving the pedal and clicking the switch a few times the pedal rises back to normal height. however, when the clutch is stuck halfway down, the friction point moves down with it. usually the throw is 4 inches and the friction point is after 1 inch, but when the pedal gets stuck the throw is only 2 inches and the friction point is halfway through that 2 inches. whether the throw is two or four inches, the clutch still engages and disengages fully. i've bled the clutch already. i think it has something to do with that ASCD cancel switch or maybe it's just the fact i'm puling the pedal back a few times that gets it unstuck. anyone have a take on this?

Your clutch pedal symptom sounds like a problem with the clutch hydraulics... the master or slave cylinder. You might be able to distinguish between these two possibilities by observing the slave cylinder while an assistant pumps the clutch pedal down, up, down, up, etc. The engine does not have to be running to make this test. However, if the clutch pedal does not stick during the test your careful observation will not yield any clues.

The purpose of the ASCD clutch switch is to disengage the Cruise Control when the driver steps on the clutch pedal. This is for the protection of the engine. If the Cruise did not disengage the engine might rev past the red line while the clutch is disengaged.
