I press the button over and over, and nothing happens. The car just stays in overdrive. If i hold the button down, it turns off till i let go. I think somethign got messed up. Has this happened to anyone else, if so, how do I fix it?? unscrew the shift and check?
thanks

I'm not sure how to fix your problem and I really don't turn my overdrive off ever, but isn't it okay for you to leave your overdrive on?

No cause, then it wastes gas by not going into 4th gear!

I thought it wasted less gas when the overdrive was on.

Sounds like you have a bad connection in the switch controlling the overdrive. It may just need some cleaning off of some dust or something is no letting the switch engage and stay off.

What? I thought the light turns on saying overdrive off meaning 4th is locked out... overdrive on means you have 4 gears... off 3???

Idea #1) Spray Frog Juice (WD-40 or equivalent) into the O/D button. It's amazing how many things can be fixed with Frog Juice.

Idea #2) Yank the plastic trim which surrounds the shifter. Locate the two-wire cable which comes out of the base of the shifter. Follow that cable to the nearest connector (just a few inches). Disconnect the connector. Your O/D will be ON forever. That's not a bad thing.
