96/97 Headlight hybrid

I was wondering if the clear housing from 97-99 headlights would fit directly onto the 95-96 rear housings??? The reason i'm doing this is because I am in the process of doing a retrofit. I want the smooth backhousing with the clear front housing from a 97/99 headlight. Doable?

Here is a teaser pic:

There are no writeups because everyone is using different projectors. The process is straightforward. Cut headlight ... mount projector ... secure projector ... aim projector ... assemble housing.

I asked this question a while back because I wanted to put the clear 97-99 lens on the 95/96 housing like you are for a real smooth look on the headlight, and the general response I got was yes, it will fit (I never got around to trying it though, sorry).

It makes sense that it would, anyway. The housings are exactly the same except for the rigidity of the surfaces.

Nice work, by the way, that'll be beautiful when it's finished!

No, I don't think it will fit, otherwsie we could swap grills with no problems.. I think the 97-99 are bigger.

The grill doesnt fit because the 95/96 bumper comes up higher under the grill. the size of the headlights left-to-right is the same. I would assume it would fit, but confirm it first.

I have a 97-99 grill w/ my 95/96 headlights. I didn't change the lights when I did the conversion. This is why I say it will all fit.

Might still want to double-check though to make sure.

The grill has absolutely nothing to do with headlights.

I read over a general writeup over on hidplanet.com, but then I realized it wasnt the best way to do it. It's straight forward. I will post a bunch of pics when it's finished.

can i ask were you got that projector from?

and how is the wiring?
I bought the projectors, and hid kit off of eBay. The ballasts are from an E46, the projectors from X5/5 series. And the wiring, still only a positive and negative wire, but I made a harness w/ relays and fuses to protect the stock wiring.
