Hello Everyone,
I have a 1996 Maxima SE 5 speed and I am having some problems with the trans and didnt know if anyone out there could be of some assistance. The trans at times will not allow me to pull the stick over to put it in 1st and 2nd Gear. 3rd - 5th and revearse work fine but every now and then I cannot get the stick to move to the position to allowe me to put into first or second. Can anyone out there please help!!

Check the linkage, something might be loose.

 

It could very likely be your sychronizers. Usually when they go bad, the first and second gear (due to ratio) is the hardest to engage.
