led's and brightness question

ok since i want to do the button mod on my 97 i was wondering what led's to go with. the brightness question is this

led's that are 3 to 5 mm with a 10,000mcd rating is how much brighter than the same led 3-5mm with a 4,000 to 8,000 mcd rating?

is the mcd rating based on the diode resistance (emitting the light) or the brightness?

As far as I know, the higher the mcd rating, the brighter the bulb. I haven't done any work with leds yet, but from what I remember reading, that is how they rate the brightness of the bulbs.

anything over 5000 mcd should be plenty bright. and different brightnesses are not a result of different resistance. It's just a the way the LED is designed. a 10000 mcd LED will shine brighter than a 5000 mcd LED with the same resistance. Also always use the right amount of resistance.

i ordered 100 blue leds. 5mm rated at 4000 and 3mm rated at 7000. u can sand them to diminish the brightness.
