97 SE Repairs

just got this white 97 SE, but it needs some work. none of the gauges work, except the odometer. narrowed it down to bad gauges. looked on ebay for a replacement, but 97 is the last year they made analog odometer. I wasnt able to find any speedos with that, and i dont know if 95-96 or 98+ speedos will be compatible with my max. Anyone have any experience with the instruments and can guide me in the direction to look for a replacement?

i also have the typical "mum-mum-mum" bearing noise. some suggest it could be the tires, but the tires wouldnt make that noise when going very slow. this definitely sounds like the wheel bearings, or in the worst case - CV joint bearings. the noise disappears when curving right. I got new wheel bearings, but wanted to do the job myself. I dont have a press. Anyone done this without the press? I read the Motorvate explanation of how to do it, but figured maybe someone did it a diff way.

has anyone seen projector headlights for 4th gen?

thanks for ur help

Before you spend money on repairs, confirm that it isnt the tires by rotating them and see if the noise moves or stops.

It's a DIY mod, for now. I wish they did make a set though!

i did see a pic somewhere of a 4th gen with 5th gen projectors... thats a lot of work, but possible. i dont know if switching the hoods would work. i still think the headlight openings have to be modified

A lot of custom work, if you have money. Go for it!
