I could think of better things to spend a month's salary on...

I've been experiencing progressively worse pulsing through my brake pedal the past month, so I figured I would go in and get the old (original) rotors turned. I drop the car off at the mechanics (really good guy, I trust him completely)....a few hours later he calls to tell me that the front rotors and pads cannot be turned again b/c they are too thin. He also says they are having a problem with one of the wheel bolts; apparently it broke under the pressure and is spinning. Added to that, he calls later and says that I might as well get the brake fluid changed as well since it will need it soon anyway....

So, in the end, I get a new wheel bolt on the rear driver's side, four new rotors, four new brake pads, and a brake fluid flush, all for the grand total of:

$946.58!!!!!

Wow man. Next time you should wait a little bit. I got new rotors and pads for $301 and 120 for labor and I am riding high. Oh well, you live and learn. Now you may want to find another mechanic...

My local autoparts store sells blank aftermarket rotors made by Wagner for 32 bux each- fronts. Thats 70 bux with tax for both rotors, the wheel stud is like 10 bux at the most from the dealer and takes like 20 min to change, brake pads won't cost ya more than 120 bux for fronts and rears and thats at Nissan list price ! Brake fluid is what like 10 bux for 4 bottles of DOT3. I don't know how much the rear rotors are from my autoparts store, but I haven't had any problems with them on my cousins Maxima (with the 32 dollar each fronts). I can't imagine the rear rotors being more than 50 bux each, since they are solid rotors and there is nothing special bout them. So basically for around 170 bux you have rotors, 10 bux in brake fluid, 10 bux for a wheel stud and 120 bux for OEM pads, you end up with 310 bux in parts. Now you can get some better pads for less than 120 for the front and rear online. At 30 bux a rotor, I don't even wanna cut them.

EDIT- You should have asked to see the old parts, cause I think they must have broke the wheel stud off while over-torqueing the lug nuts. Dam-n are some places shady, I work at a car dealership as a mechanic and I don't see this kind of **** going on here at all, but then again we aint Chevy but Acura.

You went in for brake pulsation and he replaced front and rear pads and rotors? Exactly how bad was it pulsating? Did he give you any brake percentages before you authorized him to do all that work? How many miles on your car.

i didn't read all the replies, but i hope he used the warming KY bfr he raped you. that is ridiculous. you can get brembo blanks for under $300.00. pads for $100.00, brake cleaner and fluid for $25.00 bucks...it is crazy that you are a member and did not even try and replace the brakes yourself.
