Stainless or Aluminum Lower Grilles???

My Grille Techs rusted after 6 months just like everyone elses and now I'm going to make my own. I have all the fab tools here @ work and I can buy the perfed sheet and the trim. My question is: Aluminum or Stainless Steel?? What do you guys think??

BTW I can make about four sets for the price I paid Grille Tech for just one set that's in Stainless. Go figure!

I would think stainless would stay looking better longer. Neither should rust, but I think aluminum will oxidize and get dull.

Want to make a stainless set for my 2k2?

I would agree....Aluminum would tarnish and look crappy after a while. Get the Stainless Steel. If things work out....wanna make an extra for me?!?!

What about the edges? Can something put over the edge so it doesn't scratch the paint?

Guys,

i'm still working on my custom grill, once I get the data back, I'll have the exact shape of the upper grill and could get several stainless perf stock plates cut for cheap, it would be flat though, I got flamed for suggesting a flat grill... I'm expecting my data back mid week. I can put up some sketches and maybe get some flat ones made. as far as not scrathing I think that dorr guard stuff would work... maybe not. Here is my progress so far...

I can buy the exact same trim directly from the manufacturer! It has a metal lock piece inside. We use similar (larger) stuff here to edge some metal pieces for hospital products.

Stay Tuned Folks. I will have my set done this week.

As for a grille, I have no interest in a full grille just because I see no point in looking @ my horn. If I had some kind of front mount setup or something then maybe.

I'm planning on backing it with some perf stock... I don't want to look at my horn either.

just wonderin, what is being used to attach the grilles to the car. I have some spots on my fiberglass kit that need to be filled. As for as protection to the paint, why not use some blak-out tape on the edges? Is the mesh sold on ebay any good.

I would go with stainless also, and if they turn out good I would be interetsed also, probably just for the lower valence though.

Yup, many guys have done this. Seems to help keep the Grille Tech brand from rusting.

I'd be interested in seeing it in stainless. I know Bluesbrekr as well as myself prob would be painting it black anyway. I think the Grill Tech ones are fine as long as you spray a couple coats of clear on them. But at any rate, am always interested in better quality for less. Did you say if you were gonna make the top and bottom grills?
