auto door locks?

one thing i noticed the first time i drove my max was the doors don't automatically lock when you put the car into gear, as is common with most newer cars. then i realized why- when you unlock one door , it's the only one that unlocks, they are not linked. so if there is a way to wire the locks to simultaneously unlock and lock it would be very cool. i remember my mom's escape had this feature, so i got used to it.

so my question is, has any one done this before, or at least thought about it.

it seems that gettin the doors to lock when you get in gear would be relatively easy becasue all doors lock when one is manually locked.

i don't know why you'd want this feature. what's so cool about it? my gf's saturn has it, and it annoys me - makes it so you always have to unlock the doors in order to get out, which gets annoying if you're out running errands. our cars have child-proof doors, so kids' safety is covered.... what's the method to this madness, other than "my mom's escape has it"?

see your gf's saturn has a ghetto one. for my mom's- when you're in park (for an auto)and the driver's door handle is opened it unlocks all the doors. so it's actually convenient. you only have to unlock the door via switch or whatever if the car is still in gear. its intended to be a safety precaution somehow. i like it though

my max locks the doors when it turns on, but its one of the features of the alarm system I installed. It also can unlock just the drivers door or all the doors when the car shuts off its all up to me.

no, but i like the fact that if you hit unlock just once on the remote only the driver's side unlocks

When I added my avital alarm, I got this feature. when the car starts, it locks the doors and when you shut the car off it opens the door. It's cool i guess, but its nothing outrageous.

this wouldn't be that hard to do, a few relays tied to the ignition switch and power locks. Should be less than $20 in parts at radio shack.

It just dawned on me. You should really be careful with that feature if you figure it out. You really dont want to lock your keys inside. I know that if my car is running, and I open the door and then try to lock it, the lock pops back out. I dont know if this a factory feature or my alarm added this feature. I is a great feature nonetheless. Can anybody confirm if this is stock or if my alarm must have added it? I really cant remember and now I am curious.

My Max does the same, it won't allow the doors to lock if the car is on..

my 1/2 sister has an escape too. and she did this. called me at fukin 3 in the morning to come get her down town with the extra key. i forgot though. i told myself i would never do that because of this. but if you open the door, it stays unlocked until you get in gear. my sister is just a fuktard

It's stock. The driver side door is wired into the ignition, so if the key is in their and your door is open it will not allow you to lock it. My alarm/remote start system has a pit stop feature where I can take my key out and leave the car running in which I am able to lock the door manually.
