Has this ever happened to anyone else? (sunroof related)

My dad said that he was driving to work and all of the sudden he heard a lot of wind noise. He checked to see if the windows were up and they were. He then pulled back the sunroof door to see that it was half open, but the switch was in the closed position. He moved the switch to open it all the way but it did not respond. After that he moved it back to the closed position and it did so.

Now I don't know if this happened as soon as he heard the noise or not, but I know that I had closed it when I drove his car the day before as I checked it when I got home, and after I got out and locked the car.

I've never heard of anything like this so I was wondering if it has ever happened to anyone else and if there is a fix. Thanks in advance.

mine used to do something like that (although it didnt open by itself)...it doesnt respond real well, and when i go to close it i have to move the switch from open to close several times before it'll actually open or close...if you reset the ECU (if your a 4th gen or 5th gen, just unplug battery...5.5 gen has a more difficult procedure) , it'll fix i think..i did it and my sunroof has been great ever since (ive used it about 25-30 times)

There is a TSB issued for this. you have to replace the sliding sunroof switch.

Your sunroof shouldn't be able to open without the shade going with it. I mean, when the glass slides back, it catches the sunroof shade and pulls it back too.

I've had my sunroof fail to respond to the switch, especially after cold weather. I would slide the slider back and nothing would happen. If I hit the other button (the one that makes the sunroof tip up and down), it would respond. I just waited for it to warm up, and it worked again.
