CF Hood install

Hood's on...but the latch isn't closing all the way.So I'm taking the latch assembly off and throwing on my hood pins. VERY SCARED to drill through that hood though...what are some ways to avoid damage, how do i line up the holes,etc....

mount your hood pins. put a bi of white paint or even white out on the top of them, slowly close the hood till it hits them. starting with a small drill bit and slowly working up to the right size, drill where the white mark is. take your time, or you may well screw it up.

wait a mintue so a CF hood with appropriate and working latch needs no hood pins

well that makes sense now that I think about it.

Just drill it yourself, any shop charge you more than you should pay to have them drill 2 holes in the hood. follow Akumachan advice, drill from the bottom outward, and just carefully mark where needs to be drilled so you dont mess up.

I'll be doing this also when my hood arrives CF Hood!

But to prevent cracking or splitting...I heard if you put tape on one of the sides that you're drilling,it will prevent any damage. Thanks Akumachan for the advice,I'll be attempting in a little while.

Yeah,if you put a piece of tape on the spot you're drilling,it'll stop it from making stress cracks in the clear coat and the hood.

I took my old hood to a scrap metal yard.Fortunately I'm friends with the owner,so I didnt have a "dumping fee".

sweet thanks for that tip I will do that when I drill my holes.

I'll be damned if i have to pay money to get rid of my old hood. If it costs money then I'll be forced to make it apart of my living room.

I would definatly use both. The latch will not be enough to hold down the hood. it doesnt take much to have the latch assembly break away from the fiber glass underside.

Put tape on the topside and drill from the bottom to create the hole.
I used blue painters tape. it will help keep the CF froim splintering and reduce any cracking in the clear coat.
Start with a small pilot hole and gradually work your way up to a larger bit size.

A smart thing to do would be to keep the hood.
You never know just how long the CF one will last.
Your oem hood is painted and available for immediate replacement if anything were to happen to your new CF hood. Just a word to the wise.
Keep in mind, the hoods are light and fragile.

I woulda kept my OEM hood, but the reason for getting the CF Hood was because my OE hood was destroyed beyond repair. So now it's CF or nothing.

Not the latch on the hood, but the latch on the car that the hood latches to.
It has two bolts that hold it onto the car. You should be able to loosen them and slide the latch assembley up and down.

So the holes in the hood do not line up with the holes on the hood hinges?

If so, you cannot drill new holes into the hood, because they need to be threaded.
What you can do is open the holes in the hing more though. Either long ways or sideways so that you can adjust the bolt in the hinge to meet the holes in the hood.
