I just heard of this yesterday. apparently this is the upper intake manifold? and the lower intake manifold is the actual 'intake manifold' anyone know for sure?

The intake manifold is everything after the throttle body and before the cylinder heads. It divides the airflow from a single stream into many individual streams (six to be precise), hence the name manifold (literally, many-fold). For manufacturing and assembly reasons it consists of an upper and a lower portion. The plenum is the area after the throttle body where air collects just before entering the individual runners.
