I converted the powerpoint to html and hosted it. I also sent a pm to Imports_only1 in case he has any objections. If he does I will take it down, otherwise I will post this in the How To sticky. This seems like info that should be widely available

a bi-xenon unit will give you the hi-beams once you retro. i got a set of E46 bi-xenon that i'm going to put in my maxima. there's other kinds of bi-xenon, like the E55, or TL. some good low beam xenon projectors are s2000 and tsx. i got a set of TSX that i'm going to put in my scion tc since it has separate hi-beams

I am almost done with the fabrication/mechanical retrofitting of my e46 bosch bixenons. I still have the wiring to do though.

If I were you I would use a bi-xenon projector with two wires (Hella, Zkw, Stanley) instead of the 3 that the Bosch E46 uses. It needlessly complicated matters when it comes to wiring.

But it terms of lighting quality, the E46 (both Zkw and Bosch) as well as the TL are the best bi-xenons you can get.

TL's have the best compromise between sharp cutoff, nice cutoff color, even spread and good distance.

If you don't care about having a ton of cutoff color, the Bosch E46 is the way to go. This is why I am doing it. Best even illumination, WIDE illumination, reasonably sharp cutoff and good distance.

The E46 ZKW's are bigger than the Bosch E46 but if you can make them fit (see Geo's thread in hidplanet forums) they are awesome. Great color, cutoff, slightly less of a wide beam compared to Bosch but still better than Hella, and decent high beam.

Hella bixenon are getting old and are not the best anymore but they still look great in our maximas. Their output isn't as good as the ones above but they fit perfectly in our housings. I actually like the "pattern" of the highbeams the best though. They are crazy cheap to by now as evidenced by the price azmaxipad is selling his one for.

For single xenon, S2000's (Stanley's have awesome cutoffs, color and spread), Valeo (color and cutoff) and the Mitsu Evo (output, cutoff) projectors are the best but then you lose your highbeams.

hope that helps!

don't forget to take pics WHILE you are doing your project so you can write a specific how2 for TL's magneto!

I'll do the same for the Bosch bi-xenon E46 so then we'll have write-ups for E46, Tl and Hella bixenon.

you'd also need a shroud and or bezel along with those parts. you can DIY or buy shrouds from other cars but that can get costly. like the bmw 3series bi-xenon shrouds with the 'xenon' lettering costs around $80-90.

on my other car, a scion tc, i bought a 9006 6000K kit from the group deals here. after putting it on, it was a definate improvement over halogen 9006 that it came with. then i stumpled over to HIDplanet.com. after a few reads i 'saw the light'. i then proceeded to gather the equipment for a retrofit. i first got my hands on the E46 bosch bi-xenon with ballasts and bulbs. i fired it up, and the output from just one projector was brighter and covered more ground than the output from the tc with both bulbs on.

Good comparison, thanks. I don't think i have the money to do a retrofit for a while so it looks like i'll just do th 9007 mod for now.

yea, do the 9007 for now, instead of wasting a good $260-$300 on a kit. when you're willing to spend the money for a kit, a real retrofit is not much more.

i just got myself a pair of tl projectors, i hope they fit, anybody have the measurements of the inside of the headlight? the solenoid for the high beam is on the bottom, so it makes it pretty tall, i figure i could cut the headlight on the bottom if i needed too.
