Rear brake piston dosn't turn. HELP!

I am doing my rear brake pads. I got the rear piston tool from AutoZone.
The problem is the piston does not turn. I used a lot of force but the piston only make about 1/2 turn and wouldn't turn any more.
So I'm stuck. I can't push the piston in. Anyone had same problem before? I need some help.

THanks in advance.

Jeff

I thought about that. But is there anyway I can get the old pads back and drive to an autoparts store?
Thanks.

That's odd. It might be a frozen caliper. Try putting some wd-40 to loosen it.

What can happen if I have a frozen caliper? Are my brakes still working or no?
I used some WD40 on it but it's still not turning.

If you have a frozen caliper that sucker is not moving, it's a stiff. You'll need to replace it. You've go nothing to loose at this point with the old one, so try beating it with a hammer to knock it loose. Hopefuly you'll just have rust. You can also try to heat it up (use caution).

Are you sure your doing it right?

I think I am doing it right. There isn't much I can do wrong. As far as I understand the piston should turn easily. I saw people on this board using a plier to turn it. Given how much more force the tool can offer than a plier, I think it should at least turn.Thanks.

Put it all back together with old pads and go to Autozone to pick up a new caliper.

it turns doesnt push, the outside boot sometimes sticks. Spray it with WD-40 and turn it down in. I took mine all the way out and then turned it back in for mine was sticking.

Which tool did you get? CAn you post a pic of it installed in your caliper? Believe it or not, it's not hard to improperly install the spreader so the force is not actually pushing in on the piston. I did so myself, when I first bought my tool. And the forum concluded frozen piston....it was crazy. I did my rears at 94k and there was nothing wrong with the pistons.

I just put the old pads in and undid everything. I looked into that, there doesn't seem to be rust and boor doesn't seem to stick to the piston.
I tested with the old pads on. The caliper push the pads fine when I apply the brake. Why it doesn't turn and goes in?

I just finished puting my rears on about 15 min ago. It wouldn't turn for nothing so I turned it the opposite way then I turned it the correct way and it went in still with alot of force but I got it in.

Flushing the brake fluid every couple years will keep moisture out of the system and will keep the calipers from freezing up.

Brake fluid is WAY cheaper than new calipers.

I purchased a set of Speedbleeders, and that made the job very easy for one person. If you've got a friend to help out, or at least slowly push the pedal, they aren't needed.

Keep your fluid flushed.
