CF Hood anmd Latch.

Hello All,

Finally After many many months of driving with a bashed up hood I've replace it with a nice CF hood, fits very well and I see no weave flaws.

I am trying to get it to work with the latch in front of the radiator. Have you guys with CF hood removed it or does the latch on your hood work with the latch lever (thing)? Cause mine wouldnt seem to want to go in and I didnt want to put too much preassure? Thanks.

here are some before and after pics also

On my car, I had to shave the latch just a tad... maybe 1/4 of an inch at most for it to lock. Even now I cant close it with one push. I have to give it one or two good pushes down so it closes.

the case with me is the latch is much thinner than the latch on the OEM hood, so it doesnt look anywhere near as strong, I tried forcing but was starting to hear creaking noises and I stopped. Is this one of the side effects from getting a CF Hood you have to ditch your latch and just rely on hood pins?

I have no issues with my hood latch.
Personally, I wouldnt just rely on the pins.

Thats a pretty nice hood, but it looks like you got a bit of a gap above the drivers headlight.

Now I'm lost...

I should've asked before. Did you use your stock latch on the new hood or did the hood come with one? I used my stock one.

you can try moving the latch lever up if the hood latch is fiberglassed on. Or if it's like RedlineMax's hood, you can add spacers to bring the hood latch down

The hood came with one but honestly looks rather flimsy, and it the reason why it wont work, for fear of cracking or damaging I didn’t put excessive for to try and get it in. The latch on the hood isnt strong enough so what are my options?

1: Rely on hood pins
2: get stock latch put onto the new hood
3: Are their weaker latches that will work with CF hoods but fit on like OEM?

I drove for about 10 mins with no hood pins nor latch, smart move going 14mph hood rose open, and I parked the car. I have pins on and its much more relyable held up good at 80mph on the highway, but I still feel a bit shaky.

Yea I have a bit more tweaking to do, plus I just added the hood pins so it pulls down better and is sitting flush I’ll post pics later with hood pins)

The hood didnt take anywhere near 3 1/2 months to come to me, I wasnt apart of that GD . . . sadly .

This hood came to me in about a little over a week. Hopefully Next Meet I will make it, and I wont feel all ashamed with the way my old hood was looking:rotz"

Well I don't know what is causing it not to latch since you gave no explanation, but with my FI CF hood I had to grind and bang on the stock latch to get the hood to hook into it. I'm talking about the mechanical latch which is attached to the car, not the latch on the hood. After a little grinding and hammering my CF hood latched fine.

From what I'm seeing the latch on the hood is twice as thin as the regular latch on the OEM hood, so I think it a case of the latch (on hood) not being strong enough to push its way in. I'll take some pics and put them up. So can I have my old latch from my OEM hood put onto my new CF hood? Or do I need a new latch (on the car) that isnt as strong as the OEM?

Make sure your hood's latch and the mechanical latch on the car line up. Loosen the four bolts holding down the hood if you need to. Then remove your grille, loosen the 3 bolts holding down the mechanical latch, and pull up on it a little, and tighten again. It may not move much, but might just be enough for your hood to fully lock down. The thickness of the latch shouldn't matter that much. If anything, the fiberglass around the latch may be flexing too much as you push down.

I'm DIGGING THIS THREAD OUT OF THE GRAVEEEE.

I was thinking of removing my latch just completely and leave it on the hood pins. I don't think there would be any problems of it flying up in the air but my only concern is that I'm wondering if my alarm won't work anymore or something. Has anyone done this? If there's no problem with removing the latch, I wanna get rid of the ugly thing that looks like pile of rust behind my grille and leaving a gap. Look at my sig, you'll know what I mean.

kormax....i have done that...if you look in the lower right side you can find the sensor that detects if the hood is opened. i have a viper alarm so i can tell if someone has been opening my hood, but it will work the same way with the same way with the stock alarm. the only bad part is that they dont have to unlatch it to open it....but if they really wanted to open a cf hood they could just rip it up so eh.

also, when i had my latch on the hood it wouldnt line up even...taking it out helped because even though the latch was properly screwed onto the cf hood, but the location of the latch was off so it didnt matter that the latch went on properly.
