I'm sorry if I've become a nuisance already but I can't seem to find anything on the forum regarding this. I've tried using the search tool but for whatever reason it will not work for me. I'm sure someone has brought this up in past so this may be seem repetitive to some but what type of ATF (automatic transmission fluid) does everyone use? Synthetic or standard? Brand? etc.

 

Nissan-D. I think it's worth it for the tranny flush that the stealership does for $139. (One of the few things I take it to the stealership for) You can use Synthetic if you want, Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

It helps to know what year your car is, what the mileage is, when you bought it and how many miles were on it when you bought it.

 

I just recently bought a 99 Maxima SE Limited with 75K on it. I'm trying to get her fluids all changed out but I'm still trying to decide if I should do some of the work myself or just take her to the dealership. With this information at hand, what would you suggest as far as ATF? Thanks for your help. I apprciate it!

is it hard to do this yourself for the first time? i mean if you can do a oil change, can you do this?

 

i use gm or nissan fluid since i get both for free.......a drain and refill is easier to do than an oil change....pull the plug, drain, put in 4 quarts, go through the gears and your done. a flush is a different story

 

Go with Amsoil. It should run about $7.50 a quart.

I run mobile 1 synthetic cause i caught a slickdeal at autozone when they had it priced wrong: 1.29 a quart x 14 quarts = cheap flush

 

Get amsoil from www.myoilshop.com. It's good to change all the fluids if you just got the car, unless you have a record that they were changed recently. Coolant, oil and power steering you can do yourself. Look at motorvate for the procedure. (Link in FAQ). Brake, tranny and clutch (if manual) leave to the pros.

if you can do a coolant flush yourself you can definately do an ATF flush yourself

 

With coolant you don't even have to jack up the car or anything. Tranny you do...

I have a manual...They put it up on a lift to change the tranny fluid.
