How you diagnose a bad wheel bearing.?
Or what are the signs of one going bad?
I have that wuwuwuwuwuwu sound going while coasting from 30 mph and down or even at higher speeds, when the engine is in low rpms.
I think its more prominent when I am turning slightly.
I got about 101k miles, and all original bearings. Did hit a few nasty pot holes while driving on our fantastic roads in Boston.
So is there a way to tell its bad? I can't tell which side makes the noise..

I would say that it sounds like its going bad.
It starts small, and eventually becomes a dull roar, and then it will sound like a helicopter idling on top of your car.
I am not sure what damage riding on a bad bearing will do, but I would say its time to invest in a new one(s).

My experience on my 89, grinding sound coming from front wheel (where the bearing problem was). Sound could be heard at very low speeds. The sound could be heard better when the wheels were turned but the key was it could also be heard with the wheels straight ahead. This really confirmed it was abearing problem and not a strut problem. I've also been told that the bearing cap will be very hot but I never removed the wheel cap to verify this part. Hope this helps.
I think it would have to be pretty bad to get to that point. For me, I had to practically beg the Nissan guys to look at the bearing. When they finally did they told me the bearing simply fell out (its held in by a retaining cap). Fortunately nothing happened to me because I believe the retaining cap was functioning properly. Of course, I'm not a mechanic by training so my assessment could be completely wrong. It doesn't make sense to ride around with something like a bearing being bad. You have to wonder what the friction is doing to the parts around the bearing.
the noise you describe sounds like the wheel bearing. it sounds like a squeaky or hung brake - grinding and squeaking.
on mine it sounded worse when turning left. I had my right front wheel bearing and hub assembly replaced today. $376 at a local shop. the dealer wanted $454.

That's for the STRUT BEARING not the WHEEL BEARING replacement.

I am sure I can do it myself, won't give it to mechanic to do it. But I can't which one is it, left or right.. Unless I get on the hood and have someone drive the car, while I am listening to each side.
i mean i know i need my struts replaces cuz my car feels like **** when i hit pot holes...but i dunno if i need strut bearings or wheel bearings.....i get the wuuuwuuu on the highway or 30mph+ and it increases as i increas speek...i also get occasional squeeking when i hit a pothole from my front left wheel....which one is it ?? can any1 help me
I have been throug 3 wheel bearings 2 on the front right and 1 on the front left bearings from the dealership are roughly $70-80 bucks, I would get a mechanic to check the hubs too and if you dont have a press to push the old bearing out and the new one in then i DONT recommend you do this yourself.
