02' xterra intake manifold on VG30E?
02' xterra intake manifold on VG30E?
I saw somewhere a guy claims that u can put the VG33E intake manifold from a 02' xterra on a VG30E particularly one on a datsun 510.. but i'm assuming it's similar on a maxima's VG30E
my question is, would this be bennificial if it works? how much improvement are we looking at?

VGE double barrel intake airflow is far from optimal. With good intake, 30% airflow increase is possible compared to stock [I think I could prove that with given resources]. If that can be directly transferred to hp, it means possibility to beat out of stable some idle 50horses. This might ? need Y-pipe.
If possible, test that theOry.
At that stage, start looking for new tranny (if u've got stock auto).

If that is the manifold, 'might' need some 'photoshop editing' to fit in VGE intake...

1. try using the pathy/Xterra throttle body too. will require a bit of rewiring, but that's small potatoes.
2. you'll need the lower intake manifold as well. not sure if it will fit, but if the mounting points on the heads are the same.
you'll basically need to get the parts in hand, then tear the top half off your VG30 to see.
once all that's done, then wory about making it fit under the hood.

it would suck big time if i bought the upper and lower intake only to find that it wouldn't fit onto our stock heads, then i end up swapping the cylinder heads from a vg33e as well.. then i might as well just swap in the vg33e(r) with lower milage.
i bought the earlier VG30E pathfinder intake (upper and lower) and it will bolt right to our engines... the problem is in the stock setup they're too tall. i've not had much of a chance to mess with it yet but i'm sure some fabrication can allow it to be mounted lower. the later intakes on the VG33E's i believe are some sort of composite/plastic intake as they're black and such like the newer intakes. they're the same design though from what i can tell. the nissan quest also has an intake quite like the pathy/xterra however its basically reverse (i.e. it looks a lot like the intake on the VE in that the plenum is on the backside of the engine and the tb comes out of the right). even with that one its still a bit tall and would take some modification. if i get a chance i'll take a look at it and see what i can do.
also, and quite importantly, if it can be modified to clear the hood you must change the distributor too. the one for the maxima is too big to clear the manifold. you should be able to use the vg30e pathfinder distributor with no trouble.

Here's a link for the pathy manifold on a Z, it's been done several times with good gains compared to the stock Z manifold in the picture; however, I don't think it would really be worth it for an N/A and I don't know how much better it is than the stock manifold for the max.
