Home Made Short Throw Shifter
Home Made Short Throw Shifter
Well, its not all home made but 50% is. I installed the HPAutoworks STS under the hood and then decided to do a little modding inside the car. I cut the shifter down by 2 1/2 inches, also cut the Plastic Reverse piece that slides on the shifter, redrilled a hole in the shifter and the Black Housing for the reverse. Now the shifts are alot Smoother and alot Shorter. Well here are some pics of a really comfortable STS.

yeah, the install shouldnt be hard (if its like the 3.0).
I was curious, did you use a regular hack saw or dremel with cutting attachment?

so does it make it any harder to reach? ie: going into 5th gear or something? im sure it doesn't make THAT much of a difference, but just thought i'd check.....
another stupid question: so the actual metal shifter itself is held on with epoxy? are you worried that the epoxy will come loose at all?

no guys, both of the peices can be used if you get the sts2. the one inside just moves the shifter handle up forward more to reduce the throw even more. no extra work is needed. here is a link. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....32#post3754432
I have the one thats mounted under the hood which moved my shifter forward, now if I get the one for inside what will that exactly do? Will it move my shifts back? Will it reduce the throw more?
No top views, will have to take a few pictures of that. Plus I need to cut and restitch the leather boot. The boot was made for the tall Maxima Shifter, now that its about 2 -2 1/2 inches lower I need to shorten up the leather.

i got the 2 piece sts off ebay for $150 and i installed both pieces, and didnt mod anything. reverse lockout is still intact
Cut Again
Well, I decided to cut down the shifter as far as it would go. Heres the outcome, I had to get rid of the Nissan Shifter do to it not being big enough inside the **** to go over the shifter itself.
Heres the pics.

Does the reverse lock still work or is it eliminated?
I liked it before the second cut - now it's incredibly short and seems out of proportion.. maybe if there was a different top you could put on.. one that isn't so round? It just seems REALLY short. just my opinion
