Ok boys and girls.

Here's how you can check if your differential is limited slip or regular.

1. jack up both front wheels. You can jack up under the cross member if you have a floor jack, or use two separate jacks under jacking points on both sides.

2. While looking at the opposide side wheel, spin one wheel by hand:

If both wheels spin the SAME direction- You have Limited Slip Differential

If both wheels spin in OPPOSITE directions- You do not have Limited slip.

I did this with the car in park and again in gear and it was the same result.

Source: Believe it or not, Pep Boys; and it was confirmed by the local Nissan Dealer Service Dept as the way to know.

 

This only applies to I30's, correct? I thought no 4th gens came with factory LSD.

 

No sir. Applies to both cars. Some maximas did come with LSD. You may have limited slip and not even know it.

 

Sorry for the dumb question , but just to make sure I understand right what the LSD is, Can you guys explain to me what it is? Thanks

 

Its a Limited Slip Differential. When one wheel slips it will automatically reduce power to that wheel and give more torque to the opposite side wheel via something called a viscous coupling.

check your vin number i beleive that there is a V at the end of the tranny code. correct me if im wrong somebody???

 

 

why don't you lock it then this was discussed in a thread a couple days ago.

 

Yes, you are right. Seems to me that looking at the vin number would 100 times quicker than jacking up your car.......
