The total oil capacity and how much is actually still in your car car may be different depending on how much your car is tilted when you drain it. Just put in 4 and then put down the car. Let it set for like 10-15 minutes and check the dipstick, and start filling from there to get it up the the high lvl on the dipstick and you are perfect.

also.
check it 1st day of morning after over night so that everythign has settled. u wont wanna add or get an inaccurate reading if car has oil in the system.

best is to check it after over night and add accordingly. never add to much..

Wait 15-30 min after changing & make sure the oil is @ running temp as well since fluids expand under heat. Mine usually took 4-4.25 before I installed my oil cooler, now it takes 5+!!!

It's 4 1/8 if you change the filter with the oil change.
3 7/8 if you dont change the filter.

I do.
I change the oil every 1000 miles though, and the filter every 3000. I use 4 quarts if just oil and 4.5 quarts w/filter. Of course I work at a shop and get all the free oil I want. I always use oem filters too. If you want to know why, cut a few open and you will be suprised.

every 1k is not needed...talk about overkill...but i guess if its free...

also please explain how oem filters are better then aftermarket?
i remember reading a review of filters where they cut them opened, measured the filtering capacity/ability of each filter, and did a price to performance ratio...just tried googling and couldn't find it. would you care to explain why oem is better?

The guy that owned my car before me changed it every 5K and it gummed up the oil rings. It used to use about 1.5 quarts of oil every 3K but since I have been changing it more often it has been a lot better. Last oil change I let it go 2500 miles and it was only .5 quarts low. I just like to keep the engine clean.

The nissan filter uses metal end caps and a integrated metal bypass valve and also has a thicker anti drainback flapper. It also has many more ribs on the filter media than others meaning more surface area.

Other filters that I have cut open use cardboard end caps, cheap plastic bypass valves crappy filter media with fewer ribs and flimsy drain back flappers.

You call it overkill I call it protection.
