Strange thing happened today
Has anyone else seen this happen? I stopped at the store after work today and noticed a black max parked on the next row over from me. It was stock but I still look because well, you know. Anyway I pushed the lock button on my keyfob and the other maximas lights flashed. I couldn't believe it so I pressed it again and they flashed again. Does anyone know if the keyless entry has a set frequency or if it changes when you reprogram the remotes? I am curious from a security standpiont if someone else could just walk up and unlock my car.
The frequency is set by the vehicle. I got a new keyless remote & had to have it reprogramed. So it looks like every max doesn't have its own specific frequency. I wonder how many there really are & how secure our keyless system is? Time to get a aftermarket alarm system!
I've worked at Nissan for 2.5 years and I've never seen or even heard of anything like that happening. I'll ask when I'm in Chi-town at the training center next week. I suppose if you had a smart entrance control unit with the same chip set inside that the black one had, you could do it. That's the strangest thing I've heard in a while.

i had something like that happen at school one day. my school has about 3000+ kids, so a lot of cars also. i hit my alarm for whatever reason, and another nissan, i think it was a pathfinder, started going off also. there must only be soo many frequencies that exist. but it's only happened that once, so hmm.... (spooky!)
That is weird, that must be the rare occurance that your cars were on the same frequency I dont know how many our cars have but seems like a rare luck.
if you re-program yours you should be fine and not be able to control his anymore.

I've seen it occur with both keyfobs and actual keys. I've been a valet for five years, and one day I had to get a white Buick ... I assume the first one I see is the correct one, and use the door key - voila, I'm in. The ignition key didn't work, however. I've seen keyfobs do it in Fords (Explorer and Taurus) and even a Saab (which was crazy to hear, if you know what their keyfob beeps sound like).
I had the same thing happen with a Uniden alarm, surposedly rolling codes 1.000000000 combinations yadada.. but I was able to lock and unlock repeatedly the car next to me.. wondered why I heard an alarm beep behind me when my car was infront
when i was working one day, a co-worker was programming an alarm for the customer and i happened to press unlock at the same time he did and i ended up remote starting the customers car and mine later that day. lets just say my co-worker was not happy when i told him he had to pull the alarm brain to reset it.
I did this on purpose to. I set both of my maxima's on the same remote. I sold the one maxima to the dealer. So now everyday going to work i set the alarm off to the car that i sold. Funny thing is that when the light turns green i turn it off. LOL
No offense, but do not get a Mannix alarm off eBay, a friend of mine had one on his max and just about ANY remote would arm/disarm his alarm, needless to say, he was getting rid of the car anyway so he didn't care any more. I only have experiences with Crimestopper alarms and I've never seen one of them give up a code. But if I'm in NY maybe someone with a remote in WA. might have a code like it. It maybe luck of the draw sometimes with codes aftermarket and factory.

I don't get the point of having car alarms anyway. These things suck. 99% of people just walk past a triggered alarm. What's more is that the more advanced thieves nowdays tend to favor cars with expensive aftermarket alarms and steal them...OMG...what has this world come to!?
