kncock sensor removal

ok i have read everything there is on changing the knock sensor, i used a 12mm universal joint socket, a long extension, now i can get the socket on the screw that holds the knock sensor but there is no room to move the extension to unscrew it, i greased up my hand slid it in where the sensor is problem is my hand is too slipery to hold the wrench and it slips. what "Magic" tool did u guys use? someone help me out here. i`m going crazy

That's what I used: 12mm socket, U-Joint, 10" extension, and wrench. Just keep working at it. My wrech was not down in the little black hole, it was outside the engine, utilizing the u-joint. It sounds like you don't have a long enough extension .

You need a longer extension and a friend with small hands. The toughest part was putting the bolt for the new sensor in the hole and then getting the socket on it to tighten it.

It may take a few tries.

Right before try to put your hand in tere... there is another sensor blocking the way... this is hold it by 2 bolts...loose one... and take the other one off...
this will allow you to move it up and you will have more room to even use a regular 12mm wrench... i did mine 2 weeks ago and no cuts at all.

Good luck.

I used no extension just a small ratchet, just expect some bloody knuckles- there are plenty of of sharp edges under there.

Having a pair of small hands really helps. Managing a universal joint, 12mm socket, 12 inch extension and a flash light is not easy.

i got it off by putting it on there without my hands in there just got it to go on it and turned it once then took the wrench off lossened it by hand . it sliped the first 2 times, just take some time and it will come off. i got mine done in like 15 20 minetes i dont rember exactly how long but its pretty easy. and btw my hands cant fit anywhere under the manifold so i used some duct tape and a coat hanger to put the sensor in place then i used a magnet to put the bolt on then tightened the bolt then pulled the hanger out and the duct tape came right off cuase i had it barley on there just so i could hold it still.

take off the manifold, only takes like 4 hours first time round. You can teach your kids some nice swear words at the same time

To get the screw in I used the same extension and u-joint. I took a 1.5" strip of duct tape, wrapped it around the sides of the bolt head (not under the head), and stuck it in the socket. The tape was just enough to hold the bolt in the socket. I left another 1/2" of the tape hanging out and wrapped it around the socket.

This way, I screwed in the screw using the extension without my hands, and pulled out the socket. The tape was hanging on the screw head, and I reached in with long needle-nose pliers and unwrapped it. Tada, done, no bloody knuckles or scratches.

You can also put a small piece of newspaper ( one square inch) on top of your bolt, like wrapping it, and insert it into your socket.

Can i spray some liquid wrench and let it sit for a few minutes to make the "taking off procedure" easier ?

12mm end wrench & 12mm socket & ratchet-no extension. Left hand helps but I had my girlfriend assist me w/mine(small hands) after removing the egr control solenoid.

I just used a long extension and a u-joint for the initial loosening of the bolt, then just a small 12mm wrench for the rest of it.

its easier if you use the 12mm with a swivel built right into the socket, $8 at sears. i wasted an hour and a half with the 12mm and u-joint, thers just not a good enough angle when i did it. the 12mm swivel allowed me to remove it and replace it in about 20 minutes

You got the right tools but your technique is prolly wrong. I mean you wanna aline your socket on the bolt and turn the handle. Dont try to turn the extension with your hand just the ratchet. It will break.
