Rebuilt, used, or new tranny?!?!

Howdy,

My Dark Daddy Jr. just suffered a serious setback.... F-d up tranny! I need a new one, plus probably a new clutch (& why not throw a fidanza in there while we're at it? :-D). The new tranny is about $2275 and the best used one I've found so far is around $800. The used is an '01 and my car is a '97, so there shouldn't be any install problems, right? Does anyone know if there are any companies that sell rebuilt Maxima trannies or anything of this nature? My car is located in New Jersey so optimally I would like to find a place in the tri-state area that does this work. Any suggestions? Help? Thanks!!

How many miles did you have.. and what got f'd up? Not looking forward to my 5-speed letting go but I don't beat on it severely and I'm only at 74k now.

get a new tranny with a limited slip, might as well replace the clutch while they have everything out of the car, get an ACT stage 1 that's the best clutch in my opinion, also you can order the tranny direct from nissan with a limited slip, its actually the I30 5-speed tranny

I've got about 85K...I was driving down the road when the speed sensor blew...speedometer & odometer went first. Finally it became increasingly difficult to shift the tranny & once I got it to the garage, my mechanic said the tranny was shot! I'm the second owner and I don't consider myself a very severe driver on the tranny, so I was rather surprised that it went so quickly :-\

I bought a used tranny for my car- 5spd- the original one let go at a atop sign a block from my house when I pushed the clutch in (CLUNK!!) I was able to get it to the house, but there was a hole..
Bought a used tranny with 25,000 miles on it from a junkyard and they GOT me for about a GRAND. But I needed the car and couldn't put it off. The car itself had a little over 100,000 miles on that point. Since the new/used tranny, the car now has almost 235,000 miles on it with no tranny issues. Of course, Redline is used religiously, even tho I don't think fluid is what caused the first tranny to blow...It had a hard time shifting into first gear and the consensus was that the first gear syncro was gone...
