Why are my brakes squeeking?

My brakes pads have more than enough padding left and my rotors (4 wheel discs) are in very good condition. Although I did just recently get my rotors turned. Do any of you have any helpful suggestions to get rid of this noise? The sound only comes out when the pads first make contact with the rotors. Otherwise it is very quiet. Any thoughts?

not to sure, but perhaps (if u just got them turned) they need time to reseat the pads to the disc.

you might just hafta clean them there might be some brake dust causing some unwanted noise. Check the shims as well.

Does autozone or Napa carry shims or do you have to get it from dealer? How much do they go for?

The brake cleaner will just remove the brake dust, won't really make a difference in noise, IMO. Definitely try the brake quiet product. I just replaced my pads yesterday and used the brake quiet between all metal-metal contacts (pads->shims and shims->caliper), needless to say, no squealing. That should do the trick.

If your pads are pretty low (which mine were) the shims may have actually been riding up against the rotor, but I think you said your pads are in good condition, so it's probably just the shims.

I've had the same problem... I applied the brake quiet stuff but it just wore off in a couple of months and the squeak came back...

Nissan even put out TSB's on break squealing... I've read them on this forum but they're not much help. It says something about Nissan cutting down on asbestos use and using more semi metallic / ceramics for shims or wutnot... but i think most auto manufacturers use semi metallic materials anyway.

I think the best thing to do is keep applying brake quiet every 3 months or so until you get better quality brakes / shims.
