OBX vs. Cattman

i really wanted to buy cattman headers, but when i went to buy some used there was a lil rust starting... being from new england the last thing i want is a $800 set of headers rusting... so far the only brand ive seen that make full stainless steel id OBX, but i havent heard much about them (quality, hp gains, how the sound, etc) anyone who has had them or knows anything let me know!

oh, and ya ive heard the y-pipe argument a million times... i have the money and id like to go for full headers.

don't get obx... you'll have to modify front and rear motor mount, and the design is junk.

I recently bought Cattman headers 6 months ago w/ the assumption that they're coating would be rust-free being from New England, my car has been in storage all winter and hasn't seen snow. 2 Monthes ago they set me a spray can to help against rusting which I used. Yesterday while I was replacing a O2 sensor to my horror I noticed that my exhaust that I paid $800 was completely corroded. It has barely been 1/2 a year, case in point don't buy headers unless you understand that they will corrode, doesn't matter the location your in. They may add 7+ additional horsepower, but for the cost that I paid + the cost of installation I could have put a downpayment on a supercharger.
Just My Two Cents

Yeah Tilley had to modify his OBX I think.

All headers will rust eventually and I highly doubt the OBX are any exception. Cattman seems to be best for sound, HP gains and the sets I bought were remarkably well done. I have not heard of any complaint about the Cattman headers, except that they may f*ck up Place Racing Mounts if you don't put heat shielding on the mounts.

ya no kiddin ur arent rusted... look where ur taking the picture!!! how much water u think is gonna get up into that area??? the place where i saw all the rust is on the pipe where the exhaust manifolds and the cat tie into... the part that is closest to the ground... in new england, it only takes one bad winter to ruin an exhaust... i found that out this last winter... oh and also ur from new mexico... bet u see a lot of snow and salt there huh?

Ya, you have to get under the car to see the rust. Take a picture of that and post it. Also I paid 210 for the install w/ a short throw shifter as well a bargin in my eyes.

I will, on both my cars ... I have a 95 with a y-pipe, aluminized of course and then my 03 with cattman headers. I live where rust is just not a problem. My 95(10+ yrs old) is rust free .. besides the rotors.

Do like me. Store the car in the winter. It's actually cheaper on insurance to get a dirt cheap beater that'll last the winter. There's no fun in driving a max in the winter anyway. And besides, when spring arrives, you'll be so sick of your POS beater that the max will feel even faster.

Cattman headers sound awesome. I love the way they sound with my cat-back and muffler. And by the way how do you make the headers "open headers"? Do you just run them without a catback?

ok i'm new to the forum and jus signed up for my friend whos 97 is sitting in my garage. He bought the OBX headers n Y pipe i wish he knew what he was in for. I told him lets trim the mount but that worried him, did u guys hear any stories like broken motor mounts?

And Anyone bang in the headers to fit? I got an s10 and wit long tubes they all have to be bent to fit around the motor mount.

3rd option is to have a shop re-weld the headers to fit.

thanks mark

yea..i was talking to some org memebers about the obx headers that responded before this thread was set up...just cutting part of the motor mount huh? wouldnt that cause/feel more vibration from the engine? also is it possible just using the obx header part and keep the cattman ypipe on?

i have OBX headers and didnt have to mod my motor mounts it was a pain in the *** to install had to drop the tranny or some**** i forget, but yeah their non rust and i actually prolly the only one on ehre that believes this in the forum, but i think they sound better then the cattman cuz their unequal length and give it a nice choppy type sound to it i think OBX is worth the money, make sure u get the 2nd gen with the 2 flex pipes those are the ones that fit!
