I used hi-temp engine paint (500 degrees). Didn't say caliper paint on the bottle at all, but can be found at AutoZone right near the caliper paint.
I think red calipers would look really nice on a white car!
I don't know what other color would look that good.
To tell you the truth I have a white max and while red would def look good I think blue would look nice too. What I dont like about red is it seems like 9 out of every 10 cars I see (maximas or not) that have painted calipers have them painted red! I like to be a little different, so blue will be going on my max. Between the tailights being red, all my corners cleared, the white max, and the blue calipers...I'll be very...umm...patriotic!
im gonna say what i always say in threads like this
red looks hot
black and silver blend in and don't outshine your wheels (if you have them)
im actually thinking of doing white when i get my rims, i think it would tie in nicely and not be too in your face but noticable
also my dad did the calipers on his 36 ford in a chrome engine paint, then cleared them. they didnt turn out chrome at all. they came out like a glossy matte color, if that makes any sense. pretty sweet lookin. just my .02

I do have a question, however. How do you prep the calipers for painting. Obviously, we don’t just paint over all of the brake dust. Will hitting them (the calipers) with a can of brake cleaner suffice, or is there more to it than that?

I didnt even use caliper paint...Just go and get any color you want and it works...

you dont really have to take the calipers off. we did my friends SHO a few years ago and the whoel thing cost $10 max. he bought some red high temp engine paint, and used the news paper. we cleaned them with a wire brush and ID Red. no problems. there were some paint spots on the rotors, but just take the ID Red and wipe them off. good as new and took about 1.5 hrs we were in no hurry

I didn't remove my calipers and tapeing them off would of been impossible. First, I used a wire brush to take off all the loose brake dust and rust. I used a plastic cup to spray the red paint in it. Then, with a small paint brush I painted the calipers. Took me about 3 hours to do each caliper, but was worth it! They came out great. I had so many people at my school compliment on them.

RussianMax: I say go for black or silver, red is so typical, I think it's overdone. But that's just me.

Im considering removing my paint and going with a true steel color.
I purchased some engine enamel a while back to paint some exhaust parts and it looked really good.
