Weird Starting Noise

Hey guys, I am noticing that when I start the Max, it makes a weird noise for a second after you start it, like the starter is still spinning for a brief moment after the car is actually started.

Any ideas on what this is? I would do a search, but it says I am "not authorized" to use this feature?

Also, my 18" Murano wheels are here and on the car. The stereo setup is in and done, along with the Autopage alarm with remote start. I ordered Tokico Illuminas and Tein S Techs which should be here this week. Upon which I will pull her into the garage and finally use my wall mount spring compressor! I am also going to do the smoked taillight mod. Was going to o it this weekend, but yeah, they really dum dum those tails in. I dunno if I wanna heat the dum dum, won't it get pretty icky?

Not a bad family buckety so far. I am a Honda guy, bought the Max for my wife. Not too bad on the mods considering we've had it for like a month.

more than likely the starter gear is hanging up with the flywheel..... mine does it also .. you could take the starter apart an clean and lube it.... that may solve the problem... or you could just replace the starter..... mine does not do it enough to make me want to fool with it yet

Is it something like a wheeeee type sound?

I had this noise and I never regreased it. It eventuallyd died, ofcourse it happended right after eating breakfast with my family at a restaurant. I took my tork wrench and hit it/persuaded it a couple of times and it started. I went straight to home, took it out and got it checked at Auto Zone. I put in a new one a couple months back, all is well now and the embarassing noise is gone .

Here is the link to Motorvate's site that explains how to re-grease it, in case you want to get a little more life out of it.

It'll come back.. and die eventually.. it's better to replace your starter completely and not worry about your car not starting one day. I got mine done 2 weeks ago at 130k miles. Now the car starts up like a monster in a milisecond flat! I love it.

The good thing is that it's pretty easy to change out. I just had to use some elbow grease to get those big bolts loose.

Nissan starters are notorious for making funny sounds (usually a whine or whir) when they are getting ready to die. I could die tomorrow, it could continue to work for another year... you never know.

Can anyone tell me the going rate for a new starter.. Just curiious because I thought I saw a while back that they are in the $200 range.. Also, is it really necessary to get a 10 teeth one or is the 8 teeth starter fine? Thanks
