CAI = Bad luck

So yet again I have had another problem with my CAI. First the CEL comes on...fix the problem, then a hose mysteriously gets a whole in it...fix that. Next my MAF blows...causing the KS to go as well. Fix that. Then for some reason the car stalls. Fix that and again another intake problem. Than finally I fix all but the KS. I go out to show my cousin my intake today...i barely poked it, and the thing broke right off. This caused me to go to the final step...the Hacked air box mod. It sounds so much quieter than having the cone filter on there, not sure if I like it. Has anyone ever experianced a problem with this mod?...anything I should know about?

then you must just be unlucky

the only problems I ever had with my cai were caused by human error. I've had the intake slip off of the tb twice because the hose clamps were not tight. but you learn from your mistakes

I love my hacked airbox .. free mod!
(well almost free, got an extra bottom half for $10 from junkyard, and bought myself a dremmel for the task. I don't count the dremmel towards the cost because I wanted one anyways.)

Have you already hacked it or looking to do so?

I have about 2/3 of of box hacked off, I left a bit on the side facing the engine as to draw air out from towards the fender, where it is hopefully a bit cooler then off the block. No problems with it... going on almost a year now. Since before doing it there was a bit of sand and grime on that fender wall I was anticipating that my filter might get dirty pretty quick (K&N drop filter,) but a few weeks ago I checked it out and after almost a year it still looks super-clean! Amazing really... and that fender wall is still clean too; weird. Works for me though.

The things that happened to the car, I think just happened because of the age of everything. The original owner never changed the filter or hoses, so its understandable...that the hoses would develop holes as soon as I went to move them. I dont know what caused the MAF to blow...and the KS to follow.

The air box is hacked as of yesterday...i left just enough for the to screws that sit on the fender to screw in. Still holds very strong. I threw in a K&N filter. Doesnt have that same deep roar though, its gonna take some getting used to.

By the way, does anybody know what the size of the stock hoses are on the intake? I just matched them up..never check the actual size..but it would be good to know.
