I'm back
I'm back on the org with a purpose again ! I just bough my second 4th Gen. Max last weekend. I bought at 98 SE w/ leather and a 5spd, I can't wait to start modding it. However, before I do anything I just want to get the clock on the dash board to work. Has anyone else had this problem ? Could it be a fuse or has the clocks wiring just been fried ?

The first one I had to trade in for a .....gulp...minivan. It's been about a year and a half. The one I just bought has 157,000 miles on it mostly highway. The clutch is perfect too. The only things wrong with the car were the clock and some of the preset buttons had fallen off of the head unit. The previous owner saved every single receipt for maintainance on the car, so I have folder full of oil change receipts .

Well its good to hear that you have the maintenance history for the car. It seems that the vast majority of the peeps aren't able to obtain the history, which to me is a selling feature. If the seller doesn't provide the mntce history its almost like he's trying to hide something

i got mine off a lot, the previus owner was a hyper-**** old lady who took incredible care of the car.

Welcome to the low-mileage club. I have 58K on my 95SE that I've owned since day 1. It's not a daily driver and probably has 80%+ highway miles on it.
It would appear that I have several years left with this car as I don't plan on selling it anytime soon.
I'm glad to see a buyer with the confidence in the car to buy it with 157K on it. Hopefully you will get a number of years out of the car, as I've seen them on the .org with 261K+ on the clock so far.

I would have loved to find one with lower mileage, they're just not available in this area unless you want to spend the extra money. My first Max was an absolute joy to drive and the only problem I ever had with it was t he oil pressure sender unit which is common. I'm enjoying driving this one so far and it's amazing to me how well the car stands up even with the mileage. It accelerates like it was brand new.

Looks for oil seepage where you park. The unit is situated near the end of the oil pan, about right under the back of the front passenger seat. Check next time you change the oil or if you take your car to a looby-loo have them check. Mine was just sweating, but I decided to change it anyways.

$4k , the Blue Book on it was $6375 even with mileage. Unfortunately in CT you pay sales tax on the Blue Book if the car is 98 or newer but you're able to get a refund if you can have the previous owner attest to the fact that they sold you the car for less than that. There were a lot of people up here who were buying cars for lets say $5000 and writing up a bill of sale for $1000 and paying the tax on the lower amount, so the CT IRS got smart.

evil_spork: how much did you pay for yours? Welcome to the org! There are more cosmetic diffrences than just trim. Read the FAQs for more info.
Jiggs: Welcome back, hope you enjoy the new max. Have you fixed your clock yet? Check fuses and fusable links under the dash and under the hood. If that all checks out, look for loose wiring. The prev. owner may have installed an aftermarket radio and forgotten to reconnect the clock (or disconnected it if the new radio had its own clock.) Good luck!
