$20 short shifters on ebay, whats the deal?

What is the deal with the cheap short shifters on Ebay? Like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

I've seen others mostly over 100 dollars. I purchased this one like six months ago and have delayed putting it on. I believe there is something wrong these bargain short shifters and i hope an org member can help.

well for one thing, nismo doesnt make a sts for maximas. so right there you know its a ripoff nismo item. id assume really poor build quality, and crappy materials were used, so its likely to break during hard shifting. not speaking from experience, but i have read of others with "Nismo" sts's breaking.

I bought the nismo one on ebay and your stock shifter bolt won't fit ( the lower one)...there is a sleeve on the stock bolt and it won't enter in the nismo shifter....I had to take a new bolt in and buff a lock washer to the size of the old sleeve to make it fit the old hole of the bracket...there's one side of the braket that is made to accept the bigger size of the bolt with the sleeve and the other side is made to accept only the size of the bolt....makes it tricky but not impossible...!!

i bought a cheap short shifter on ebay about 6 months ago and the only problem i had was the angle of the shifter. Since the throw is shifter is shorter the angle that the shifter bent at caused the shifter to hit the end of the gear box before getting into 3rd or fifth. I had to heat up the shifter and bend it more. Just my 2 cents in case u encounter this problem.

I bought 2 shifters from ebay, one was aluminum and it snapped on me because it was weak.

The second one i bouhgt was steel and it was awsome, but it pushed the shifter forward up and it would touch the shifter trim in 3rd and 5th gear, dont know if other shifters do this.
Was very smooth tho.

$12? Damn, I might have to set up an account for this. Would the unincluded nut and bolt come off the original shifter?

It may fit. If not, you can get one that would fit at any hardware store.
It really shouldnt be an issue.
I had to replace the bolt and nut that went on my shifter when I had mine come apart on me while driving.
It wasnt too hard finding a replacement.
