Help! Need to classify my 4th Gen for time trials - diff btw i30?
Help! Need to classify my 4th Gen for time trials - diff btw i30?
I made a case that my 4th gen is basically the same as an i30 in terms of weight/hp, and handling characteristics.
This is because the classification had a listing/class for an i30 but didnt mention 3.0 liter maximas.
If I had a 3.5 l maxima I would be starting a class up from the i30, and would be up against some tough competition - since the mods that I have on the car make me class up already.... so I would be up against the likes of Audi A4 3L, M3 E36, M5, M6's etc..
Can anyone vouch that the difference between a 96 maxima and an i30 is minimal? I figured the dif was basically trim and creature comforts....
Thanks

What are your mods? Those car's are way out of your league for all around comparisons .. (i.e where drag times aren't the only thing looked at)

As far as time trials, (1/4 mile) yes they're comparable, or almost dead on each other, one of the fastest all motor A32's was on a 96 I30 (I30MikeD)
And as for the I35, the Maxima may have the lead in the 1/4 because the I35 was never offered with a manual transmission, (manual got cut off in 96/7
one of those years for sure.)
thanks for the info- basically, I dont need to stress any point except that a 4th gen (3 liter) maxima is virtually identical to an I30 as far as performance goes. Same handling characteristics and acceleration.
True, right?
BTW- this is for classification in time trials - for racetrack times (not drag, but road course)
My mods are like pretty complete, and its on a point system- 15 points and you class up, 30 and you class up again... So all told I got 22 points with ECU, intake, springs, shocks, pulley, tire size (down to 50 sidewall) brake pads, taking out the front seat, rear cushions, RSB,FSTB,RSTB, catback etc etc. Its a pretty cool system - especially considering I can still afford the extra 5 points that getting race tires would cost and not have to class up !!

Differences are explained here:

Bottom line, they're the same car (Nissan A32 95-99 Maxima/I30). When I buy parts, I buy Maxima parts. The major difference is that most body panels are different, and the i30 has better leather. The i30 has different rims. The i30t (touring edition) has a VLSD in manual, larger rims and a better suspension.
By all logic, a Maxima should qualify in the same class as the i30.
