Howling noise from RR brake/hub assembly?
Howling noise from RR brake/hub assembly?
Hi,
I have searched through the sticky's and couldnt find anything so i thought id ask here.
I have a 99 GLE and its making a howling noise coming from the back. I originally thought it was a tire but changed them and its still doing it. I think its probably the rear wheel bearing and was wondering if this is something that is easy to fix.
Any online manuals for my car? Perhaps some other ideas what the noise might be?
thanks

It only costs about Cdn$20 plus tax for a Haynes manual. Do they have Lordco in Alberta? That's where I got mine.
It would help if you described the nature of the noise: constant, intermittent, when braking etc.
Have you replaced your rear brake pads before?

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php has instructions on the front bearing ... that should give you an idea.. its under the steering and suspension setup. Buy a Haynes manual for 15 bucks - that should give you some more information too.
Rear brake pads have not been replaced. The noise mostly goes away when i make a left turn. Im assuming because it puts less pressure on the bearing but im still not positive thats the problem.
Ive always found the haynes manuals to be so damn vague and cover so many years that i never even bother buying them. If you guys say there not too bad ill pick one up.

sorry rmurdoch, to answer your question, there is no lordco's in alberta but i can find a haynes manual somewhere else.
The noise is contstant like i said above, its a howling noise but i cant quite make out what it might be.
anyone else have an idea what it might be?
