I have the 15" rims. I've really liked the Bridgestone Potenza RE930's that I've had. I just ordered a set of the new RE950's so we'll see how those work out.

stock 15"

if you have a stock se which is 115/60/15 then you can run 225/60/15

I called up the tirerack.com and the guy said that would be no problem

enjoy

stock 16" SE rims

with 225/50/16 bridgestone Potenza RE730's. They were $87 each on Tire Rack, and they perform 150% better than the stock 215/55/16 Toyos that came on the car.

I have had the pepboys Futura Super Sport GTX 225/50/HR 16 I liked them alot but I burned them up realy quick. I just put some of the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 215/55/ZR16s on my car and all I can say is DAMN!!!!!. I pulled out of my neighborhood when it was raining, and floored it, no wheel spin then punched it into 2nd gear and it spun very little. Tracktion is great and handling is wonderful! I got them from tirerack for $75 a piece good deal for the tires got them put on lifetime balance and an alignment for $146.00 at sears

A couple of my friends have them one with a 1997 Maxima, MaxedOut97SE, and one has them on a 1998 Contour SVT. They both love the tires I would highly recomend these tires

While we are at the topic, if I put in 225/60R15 at the place of my current 215/60R15 tires, would that make the speedometer reading inaccurate? Or is the difference small enough to be ignored?

im running 225/55/16 dunlop sp sport 8000. they are good overall -- quiet, sticky, good in wet weather.

you have two choices for the tire size -- 225/50/16 or 225/55/16. i went with the 225/55/16 -- by the time i wear out the tread, i will be at the normal, unworn size of the 215/55/16 (original spec). if you go with the 225/50/16, you begin at the size of a worn out 215/55/16.

I am running Bridgestone Turanza Revos H-Rated (215/60). They are super! Best tires I have ever owned. A little pricey though ($102.00 each). But well worth it. Rated at 80,000 miles.

See: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

So when your speedo says "60", you're really going more like 61mph. The efect on your gear ratio is more important.

Dunlop D60 A2 on my stock 95 SE 15" rims.

They are b*tt cheap, are great on dry pavement, OK in rain, but downright suck in snow. Luckily I have snows. In any case, noticeably better than stock toyo's

I just put on a set of Michelin Pilot XGT H4 225/50-16. I've driven in dry conditions and heavy rain. So far, I love them. They're a little pricey, $126 at tirerack, but they are really great tires. I really would have liked the Pilot XGT V or Z rated, but those are even more expensive.

Yokohama

I have Yokohama Y388's on 15" rims. They were $425 for all 4, which included all the other fees and taxes. H rated. Before that I had General Tire P2000's. The General's were a slightly harder ride for a little better performance than the original Toyo's. The Yokohama's perform just about as well with a noticeably softer ride. Because I drive the car alot, I prefer the improved ride. Thumbs up for the Y388's, so far (about 2k miles on them). They're great all season tires and grip nicely in the rain.

Btw, the stock for '95 was P215. I went for P225 to "fill out" the wheel wells better. Don't know what size the '98s have, but you may be able to do a similar size adjustment. Definitely recommend it, unless you're gonna try for a lower profile tire.

Bridgestone Potenza RE730s 225/50/R16
Best tires wet and dry that money can buy....
I'm never running anything else.
But then again.. I just went for an autocross ride around a parking lot yesterday in a stock IS300 with Bridgestone Pole Position S02's and DAAAAAAYMN. This guy was damn good too, controlled understeer to oversteer. Almost makes me wish I had a rear wheel drive.
