A good buy?

hey guys. I have had two 3rd gen maximas and currently own a 4th gen. i am currently sort of looking for a replacement for my wife's 95 accord and my friend is looking to trade his 02' maxima in for a jeep. it has every option except for navi system and has 67k on it. it is the black metallic color (charcoal maybe) not sure of official color, with black interior SE 6 speed. i know that it has been very well taken care of by him. he just put new rubber on it as well. he said that he would sell it to me for 12k. I think that this is a pretty good deal but just wanted to hear what the 5th gen experts had to say. thanks in advance.

I'm not a 5th Gen expert, merely a fellow 4th Genner. What model is the 02 Maxima? I take it that it has heated leather seats and a sunroof. Is at an automatic or a 6-speed - I suspect its an automatic.

The price seems quite reasonable, but the mileage is a litte higher than normal. I would be happier with more like 45K, but 22K in the life of a Maxima is nothing.

I say if the transmission is what you are after, given that your wife will drive it, then go for it.

it sounds like a good deal, except that the miles are high. Although some say that 20k mi is nothing for a Max, but still, it is a good year's worth of driving.

2k2's had some recalls. Make sure they are up to date. Also, if it's an auto, you're in for a breakage at some point. I blew mine at 103k.

It sounds like a good deal - not an awesome deal but still pretty good. Especially if you know that it's been well taken care of.

I think that sounds like a great deal. However, I don't think it's ever a great idea to buy a car from a friend or relative because if something goes bad on it, it may become an awkward situation. Just my $.02.

It is a 6 speed SE with the heated leather seats etc.. the reason the mileage is higher is because he did a lot of traveling in florida before moving (and driving) here to WI a few months ago. one of the third gens i owned had 267k on it when i sold it and is still running around town here. if the maxima reliability and long life holds true, 67k does not bother me that much.

Enigne will last well past 267k miles, tranny not so much....I am starting to have some trouble at 67k but mine is an auto....so I don't kno about 6spd's but these cars are great!

your 3rd gen lasting 260k mi+ is not something that could guarantee this 2002 will be as reliable. Many ppl will agree that Nissan cars used to be more reliable than now, so don't count on it.

I just bought a 2000 with 77k and it runs perfect so far... a 2002 with less than 70k for 12 gs sounds like a good deal to me id buy it.

I recently paid 13,400 for a fully loaded SE 6spd. with 54k The car has limited slip, roof, leather, heated eveythings, Stillen intake, Greddy muffler, new rubber and alloy rims and an upgraded ECU. In my area 6spd maximas are hard to find and they go for a premium. 12k sounds like a great deal and it's most likely rust free.
Grab it!

Yes, if its a Florida car, with a 6-speed, and mostly highway miles go for it. I would try and get it rust-proofed and leather-protected if it hasn't been done already as I suspect the winters where you're from are fairly brutal based on the Green Bay Packers games I've seen on TV, lol! Buy the car.

I've seen 4th Gens talked about on the .org with 261 and 265K, respectively, and they're running strong. Only time will tell what the longevity of a 5.5 Gen Maxima is.

KCMO, How much did that Max cost you?

I drove a 2000 SE Yesterday with 75k miles, leather, sunroof, bose, climate control. Looked like it was in good condition, what would be something specific to look out for on this car? I am concerned that the tranny might not hold up for many years.
