dash lights

sometimes when i press my brakes, my dash lights come on. it happens about once everyday. since that has been happening, i have blown a couple of fuses as well for my taillights/dashlights. does anyone know why this is happening? almost forgot that my parklights dont have to be on for the dashlights to come on when i press the brakes either. thanks in advance

If possible, have someone confirm if ALL your rear lights are working during(if possible) this 'Dash light on' period.
Once the dash lights come on during braking, will they consistently come on during braking afterward ?
rear light assy has short?
I would lean this way as well.

like Wiking said - rear light assy has short

It is very common for the taillight sockets on the car to start to corrode. Open your trunk and unplug the connector at the bottom of each taillight and see if this still happens. If so, then it's something else. If not, try one side at a time to try to narrow it down to which side and then replace the sockets

That has been in the mind of the confuzean designer: u will receive info that smtg is wrong as/if/when rear lights will not work. And his design works well, you're already conFused... Do as Craig suggested, take rear light assemblys on the table, inspect under bright light, short are typically veery obvious If not, measure for shorts.

well just out of couriosity, have you changed or touched anything in the back light asembly. I know i had this problem. It turned out that at the same time i was changing the 1157 and 1156 bulbs i got them mixed up and that is what caused the short. make sure that the 1156 go to where they belong and the 1157 go to their right spots. check to se nothing is caught in the connection terminals and will shor out ei such as metal fillings. check for blown bulbs. if you take your time it will be plain as day, maybe you was working in the back of your turnk with a friend and touch something by accident.

I had this same problem and was going to post it here. When I pressed the brake, Dash and tail light would come on and the 10A fuse would blow. I assumed it was a grounded wire somewhere and took it to a mechanic who spend a day and a half on it, told me that he replaced some wire (LIAR!!!) and when I checked the fuse box, had replaced the 10A fuse with a 20A fuse. Whew!!! So long story short,
1) it is OK to have the 20A fuse in place instead of the 10A??
2) How difficult is it to check/fix the taillight sockets?
The last time I fixed anything, it was the window regulator, and I used the writeup from Craig's page. Any writeup's on this Craig????

1. Its ok, but the real problem would be nice to find out... Most possibly he did use his last fuse, burned ALL others with previous customer...Try now a 10A Hope u did not have to pay for 1½ day$$ ??

PS. Dont go there.

2. Clip clip snap snap and on the table. Take a HARD look, dont scare mama.
