Making throttle cable tighter? (Come inside to understand more)

I recently drove a 240SX and a Prelude and the throttle cable seemed tighter on those cars than mine, like its more stiff or a bit harder to push down the throttle. I'd like my car throttle to be like that, more of a sports car feel instead of a family car. I was thinkin I could get the spring from the 240SX throttle body and replace the spring on my throttle body with that one, if it fits. I hope that made sense to some people.

I asked automotiveforums.com, but there is hardley anyone on that forum so I am asking on here now. This guy, Nahkapohjola, said
Stiffnes may be added or by adding extra spring: the longer it is, the more uniform response (cutting is not good in this sense). Get one 'std' 3" spring, attach one end to the axle mech. Fashion a steel support for other end, down the engine under some tough nut for attachement.
Does the adding a spring make sense to anyone?

Thanks,
Mooney

check the throttle cable give in the engine bay by the throttle body. you can readjust this and tighten some screws. it won't make it springier, but will be quicker and mor reactive. don't take out all of the slack, though.

How tight is too tight? I just tightened it, hopefully not too tight.

LudeAEM: I love the car I got and am keeping it till it dies. I just want more of a feel of a sports car without spending money.

i have noticed that most 4 banger janapese cars have tighter throttle cable than v6's. maybe it has something to do with power?

Stiffer pedals will tire you out more, especially if you do mostly stop and go driving. Why would anyone want this???

You say the 240sx felt more like a sports car because of the stiffer pedal. But it'll never be as fast or faster than a maxima stock. With the maxima, you have comfort and you will kick 240sx and prelude butts all day long and you wouldn't be as tired as those guys with stiffer pedals.

well, stiffer pedals can also be attributed to a dirty throttle body.

I know they can't be as fast stock, but I just like the feel of a pedal like that. I get plenty of use of my feet and legs, so I don't think tiring out would happen.

Enought about this talk, does anyone have any ideas of how to do it, or does anyone really care? Any thoughts on this would be great. Thanks.

Its easy, loosen the bolts that are on the throttle cable in the engine bay, and adjust them to your liking, of course dont make it to tight. Then tighten the bolts back up to spec. When you press the wire it should be about a half of a cresent. Hard to explain when I don't have a pic to explain it with.

The last Ferarri I had in my detail shop had a gas pedal "firmness" or lack of, similar to all my cars.

My 330i has a nice mellow drive by wire feel.
My Maxima has nice smooth pedal feel as well.

When's the last time you had true sports car out for a test drive?

Ever drive a $150,000 Bently Continental? I didn't think that pedal felt much different then any other car I've driven, oh except for the amazing amounts of ooozing power that develops as you step on it.

yes adding a spring to the throttle assembly will make the pedal firmer, you just need to figure out how stiff of a spring you want and where you can mount it.

njmaxseltd: I suppose your right, I was refering to the 240SX and Prelude. I like the way their pedals felt, but if I can't make mine like that I guess I'll just deal with it.
